However, when I scroll back up it doesn’t change back to transparent.

I would go back and rewatch the tutorial a few times and pay careful attention to what they are doing to make sure that you have done everything as they have stated, as it is easy to miss out something simple like making sure that both strips are attached to the header or you haven’t applied the onViewport event in properties panel etc.
Otherwise, check your code is exactly as they have stated to use and make sure that it is in your site tab and not on page tab.
