Is it though? 1.5 years later, and still not there. As if text editing and layout tools are hard to do…
Still haven’t produced the customization that they announced in the beginning of last year, it’s crazy. Even what they announced wasn’t much but it was better than nothing.
Nothing in the road map to give us all hope. Just a resounding silence, as far as the blog app’s concerned. It feels pretty much as if they’ve abandoned the blog, and those using it!
I think for myself, and my clients, the time has come to give up on Wix. I’m seeing more and more frustration and dissatisfaction here, on LinkedIn, and other locations, all fed up with the appalling level of support and cynical attitude they bring. Wix responses tend to be the usual rather patronising comments, which most of us have heard before, and nothing changes.
Who knows what’s going on within their walls, but they seem to be on an internal mission of growth, somewhat forgetting that you need to keep your existing customer base sweet too.
Totally agreed it is still a mess even all this time later and you would think there would have been some progress by now but I think you missed the point of what I said after concurring to the other commenter about the collection limits being an issue if you wanted to make a blog system from scratch which is still true of course.
The point I made (also verified by Noah in another comment) was that we can use the Wix blog system to make the posts and manage your content in the backend etc as normal but you can avoid using the “Baby’s First Blog” frontend visuals of the vastly outdated Wix Blog app and instead create your own dynamic pages, a list page, a categories page, a single blog page, whatever you need and instead of connecting those page datasets to one of your actual limited CMS collections you connect it to the Wix Blog via its collection which is not tied to the collection restrictions. That way you have actual control over the styling of the pages. It is still very limited, for example you can only display 15 items max per load for some weird reason unlike with normal data (which is probably ok for most Blog list style pages anyway to be fair) but it is also limited on which fields in the Wix Blog structure you can connect to what page elements and whatever… I never really got too far with the concept beyond what I personally needed but it was at least as useable as the default app version when I did this back in Nov 2023 and it still seems to be working for me to this day with no problems and actually fits with the rest of the design of my pages seamlessly unlike the unbearably sore-thumb looking default app pages which never look good or fit with custom content no matter how much you try.
But my use case for the blog system is a very small part of my needs so I don’t know how scalable it would be if that was the main portion of a website, especially if it needed to work with the (already needlessly cluttered and messy and in need of serious streamlining) members system to make those similarly garish default app Member pages customised to the site design too… that honestly sounds like more hassle than it would be worth!
