Allow custom icons for all components (cart, member icon, accordion widget arrow)

We are unable to use custom icons for quite a few things in Wix such as the shopping cart, member icon, accordion widget arrow. It is quite annoying when you want to design a website that feels truly cohesive the standard icons simply don’t fit with the design language on the rest of the website.

Look at my design as an example. I want to use an arrow with a faint circle around it, but I can’t because I can’t upload custom icons to the accordion widget. So I will have to use the very generic accordion icon which won’t go with the design language of the rest of my website.

I often hear people say “Editor X / Wix Studio is great, but it needs polishing”. It is small details like this that will really make it a serious competitor to companies like Webflow.

@cjechurchill Thanks for the feedback! Are the shopping cart, member icon, and accordion widget arrow the main ones you’ve found where you can’t use custom icons or are there other places you have noticed?

Hi Pamela. Yes these are the places I’ve noticed. There may be other places in apps or widgets I have;t used yet. I feel that we should always be allowed to upload our own custom icon.

I have added this feature request to the product roadmap now.

Hi,

I agree, the icons in Wix studio don’t always seem to match the brand or look of the website, and little details like this can make it look standard.

Is there no way to add custom icons even if that includes velo?

@zer0studioslondon You can upload your own images to use as custom icons: Click on the icon to select it > Click the Replace icon to select a new icon. You can choose from free media available from Wix, or upload your own.

But, note that there are limitations with the Wix apps, like Stores, that already have them built in.
If you had a custom built store, then your custom icons would be included in that, since the entire store experience would be coded.

Are there any certain instances where you have wanted to have a custom icon but weren’t able to?

I strongly agree.
I’m working on a site in which I use a shopping cart icon to mark some items in a repeater. (Items available for sale). Now I can’t use the same icon for the global mini cart I have in the header.
In any case all built in icons for the mini cart are really problematic design wise.
I hate to say “ugly”, but somehow they never really fit any design.

Hi, are there any updates son this topic?
I am designing an accordion and can’t change the “+” icon design as it’s not a replaceable image, it seems to be an icon font. There’s no options to change it.
photo attached: Is it possible to replace this “+icon” in code ? And how?

Thanks

Hi @cjechurchill
I have the same problem, where I need to customise my accordion icon, did you manage to find a way to do it in the end? maybe in code?
Thanks

I’m having the exact same problem with the accordion. It’s so frustrating. I would love for the Wix team to respond. It seems like a simple enough feature to implement, to change a very generic icon to the brand’s design icon . @pamela any updates on this?

Hi
have you figure out a solution?
I’ve tried to add a svg icon as background_image on accordion__icon class by using css, which works… but i can’t figure out a way to change that svg when the item is collapsed…
any ideas?
