I think I have seen someone mention that Light boxes take too long to open, but I don’t recall ever seeing a solution. I think someone mentioned trying to turn on animations (which I tried w/o success)…
Any ideas?

They can be coded to open immediately.
@brett-haralson , so am I understanding you correctly that the delay is not a performance issue, but it was, rather, programmed that way on purpose? Are there any tutorials on this? Would love to play with that! thanks Brett
You can search - I know we have a few in the community that have made video tutorials on how to do this! 
A default loading gif would make it better
I’m having the same issue with lightboxes, I’m also finding that elements within the light box load at different speeds
