Change categories for individual events in a series

Currently the recurring events feature allows you to set categories for all of the events in a series, but not change them for individual events in that series. Without the ability to customize the event categories for individuals events, I can’t effectively use the categories on my site to feature types of events.

For example, our organization hosts a speaker series and the events are categorized as “guest speakers,” which then show up on a page for “guest speakers and lectures” where the event widget is filtered to only show events in that category. This works well about 75% of the time. But if the guest speaker is talking about their new book and we want it to appear on a page for “book talks” too, or the guest speaker is a filmmaker saying after a screening for a Q&A or a musician speaking after a performance, we can’t add applicable categorizes so that event appears on the “film screenings” page or the “performances and concerts” page.

This small restriction that doesn’t really make sense from a user standpoint (at least I can’t think of any reason that it would be beneficial in another context) is a big disadvantage to using the recurring events feature, which is otherwise quite useful.

Since there doesn’t seem to be any way to submit feature requests anymore (extremely frustrating), I thought to post here to see if others agree that this would be a useful update.

Hey! If I understand correctly, the request is to allow adding categories to individual events within a recurring event, right?
