Studio Hours

It’s time to mark your calendars!

This week, we started by announcing Studio Hours - a space for the community to gather and spend time with each other - working through questions, being there for each other, and overall having a great time!

We’re buzzing for our first Studio Hours on 2023-11-29T15:00:00Z as we begin with the theme “Responsiveness”. If you have any questions about responsiveness ahead of time, let us know in the comments of the Studio Hours announcement.

And so you don’t miss it, add Studio Hours to your calendar:

Design your site’s scroll bar

Shoutout to @Certified_Code on the release of their latest app to the app market :muscle:

You can now customize and design the scroll bar of your site (without the need for code!), which is pretty awesome. They’re looking for feedback and would love for you to try it out. Go take a look at let them know your thoughts and feedback here.

Wix Studio News

Resize elements seamlessly by locking their aspect ratio

This week, we made resizing media elements easier :raised_hands: You can lock the aspect ratio of these elements so the width and height always stay proportional to each other.

Here’s how it works:

You can lock an element’s aspect ratio from the Inspector panel, then enter the width or height value you want—when you change one value, the other will adjust automatically. Or you can resize directly on the canvas by dragging the element’s handles.

And for the elements this works on:

  • Images
  • Vector art
  • Shapes
  • Single video players
  • VideoBoxes
  • Transparent videos
  • Lottie animations

Let me know if you’ve already begun using it.

Schedule a lightbox in advance

Ever needed a lightbox to only show at specific times, and ended up adding calendar reminders to enter the editor to publish it, or disable it from showing? Or perhaps required code to know if the lightbox should be showing or not?

Well, you can now choose a specific time and date for a lightbox to go live for maximum strategic impact with site visitors. Plus there’s no need to publish manually, it’s more convenient for you and your clients. Set a start and end date and time, as well as a time zone for the lightbox to appear. Great for limited-time offers or sales, like Black Friday.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend is just around the corner. If you have a site you plan on using this on, I’d love to see it in the replies

Use address inputs to collect, verify, and validate addresses

Address inputs are now available on Wix Studio :tada:

Perfect for those custom forms or solutions for clients needing to capture addresses. What’s more, when site visitors start typing their address, they can select theirs from the dropdown list - making it easier to verify and validate the captured address.

Now that address inputs are available, what’s a use case you’re freed up to create?

Add a slider so site visitors can filter details quickly

Site visitors can now quickly select from a range of values, using the slider input, but moving the sliding bar left and right. Choose from classic options like price, duration, and distance.

If you have an existing filtering system, this is the perfect solution to help site visitors refine what they want to see.

ReConvert Upsell & Cross Sell

Seamlessly integrate the app for clients with both Wix Stores and Wix Bookings installed, so they can upsell products during checkout. Customers booking a service or purchasing products from online stores, will see a targeted product recommendation on the checkout page, below the Order Summary box, like a yoga mat for a yoga class, motor oil for a car service, or skincare product for a beauty salon.

By adding the app, your clients will have an increased opportunity to grow revenue, average order value and make more profit on their services and stores.

Note: This app is only available in English.

How to handle being ghosted by a client

Whether they’ve already signed a contract, or are still a potential prospect, being ghosted by a client isn’t a great feeling.

It may leave you questioning, “What happened there?” especially when communication seemed so strong.

Inevitably, it happens, but we have your back if and when that time comes :muscle: Find out why clients ghost you, and how to handle being ghosted in the blog article published this week - How to handle being ghosted by a client.

I’d be interested to hear which of these techniques you already use, and how, after reading the article, you’re going to become un-ghostable with future clients.

How To Build Freelance Community

Freelancing can often be challenging, especially when you’re handling the creative and the operations of your business on your own. You don’t have coworkers to share workload or brainstorm ideas with.

This week, the blog article “How to build your community as a freelancer and why it’s so important, with Kyle Prinsloo” (@kylepdotco) answers those struggles, by giving you pointers on how to build your community and network.

The point about “don’t look for work, look for people” stood out to me. It’s easy to forget that having a strong community of people around you helps to alleviate the stress of looking for work.

Community Events

Tomorrow, Saturday, November 18, 2023, the Toronto Community is meeting to problem solve together through peer-sharing and growing business together. I’m sure this is going to be a great time that all enjoy, and if you’re in the area, Thomas and the rest of the Toronto community would love to have you join them.

We have a couple of other upcoming events, like Sydney’s - Website Design and Mobile happening next week, and the Coworking & Lunch Day happening in London at the beginning of December.

Take a look at our growing communities and join your nearest to be notified when their next event is - Meetup.com
