Concerns about app use agreements

I was about to install the 3rd Party YouTube Player and noticed the agreement prior to installing.

THIS IS NOT OKAY!!!

Shouldn’t WIX make an effort not to allow its userbase to be defrauded?

Here is the cut and paste from the app use agreement…

" * The app developer may access, use, copy, change, delete and share all your website’s data, including your and your website visitors’ and members’ financial and personal information and may have access and change the code of your website and change the design, content or functionalities of your website.

  • This app was built by a third-party developer that is independent from Wix. Wix did not review or verify this app, and is not affiliated with this app. Wix is not responsible and will not have any liability for this app or its functionality, security and/or performance, and shall not indemnify you for any damages or loss that may be caused by using this app.

  • You may be sharing sensitive information with this third party app. Learn how YouTube Playlist Player will handle your data by reviewing its terms of use and privacy policy.

  • By adding this app you agree to the Wix App Market

This is auto text by Wix, it’s same for every app on app market Wix should change this text asap…

Hey @Scott_Allen_Cello!

Thanks for raising your concerns and feedback about this. I’ve already taken it with the teams internally to discuss what’s happening here and will get back to you as soon as I have a better understanding.

Hi Scott,

I came across your post and wanted to address your concerns directly, as I’m the developer of the app in question. I completely understand your apprehension regarding the agreement details you’ve mentioned.

I want to assure you that, as the developer of the YouTube Playlist Player, we do not collect, access, or use your website’s or your users’ data in any way. The text from the app use agreement that you’ve cited is a standard clause applied to all apps in the Wix App Market, regardless of their actual data usage requirements. This clause is more about legal coverage and is not necessarily reflective of the actions or intentions of individual app developers like us.

Our app, specifically, does not require access to your website users’ personal or financial information to function. It’s designed to operate independently without interacting with sensitive data. This standard agreement text is more of a precautionary measure for Wix and does not imply any intention on our part to misuse your data.

We prioritize user privacy and data security, and our app’s functionality is solely focused on providing the service of integrating a YouTube playlist into your site. We encourage you to review our terms of use and privacy policy for a more detailed understanding of how we handle data, which aligns with Wix’s standards while ensuring the utmost respect for user privacy.

Thank you for bringing up your concerns, and I hope this clarification helps put your mind at ease regarding the use of the YouTube Playlist Player on your Wix site.

If you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us directly using our official website - vanyadoing.com before making any public claims.
We’re here to assist you.
Always.
Thank you.

From what I can see, you’ve labeled our app as dangerous and advised other users against using it, seemingly without valid justification. To maintain fairness, it would be appropriate to apply the same scrutiny to every single app in the WIX App Market.
Your post has garnered over 90 views, and I am currently exploring ways to address this situation and clear any unwarranted accusations against our app.

@noahlovell You’ve promised to get back with a results. So please be kind to clarify we do not use the user’s data in anyway.

Best regards,
Vanyadoing

You have expressed your position, and what you say might be true. But as a consumer it is also a dangerous world out there, and if i’m notified about a potentially dangerous situation, I need to take precautions. I certainly won’t retract my concern just because you tell me I should. If what you say is true, you need to take it up with WIX not me, the careful consumer.

Absolutely, I understand and respect your position as a cautious consumer in today’s digital landscape. It’s important to stay vigilant. However, I’d like to emphasize the importance of fairness and consistency in such matters.
The notification warnings you mentioned are standard for all apps in the Wix App Market, not just the specific app you pointed out. By focusing on one app, it might inadvertently give the impression that this is an isolated case, while in reality, all apps on the market share similar notifications.
My aim is to encourage a balanced view where users are aware that these warnings apply universally across the platform, ensuring that no single app is unfairly singled out.
I appreciate your vigilance and agree that consumer safety is paramount.

Hey all!

Just want to loop back on this conversation.

I understand the frustration and have chatted with the relevant teams about the wording that is used within these popups.

As outlined, the wording used is a ‘catch-all’ and is often present on apps developed using Wix Blocks. Let me explain why

When developing ‘traditional’ apps for Wix, a developer is required to define the scope and permissions of their app in order for specific APIs to be useable.

On the other hand, Wix Blocks use Velo, which currently allows a developer to use any Velo API available (it doesn’t have the same scope defining steps).

While I understand that in an ideal situation, developers would have better control over this area - therefore providing greater assurance to end users - this isn’t currently possible. The ‘catch-all’ agreement allows end users to continue benefiting from the solutions developed by developers.

I would encourage that if you’re concerned about potentially fraudulent activity by an app available on the app market to reach out to the Wix Support team who are best equipped to investigate such cases.
