Creating a Member Diary

Hey all… We’re hoping this can be done without any coding. We’ve gotten close but need some advice.

Here’s the scenario:

We have a client who wants paid members to submit diary entries on a regular basis that will be stored in a container. The member needs to access their member’s area and be able to submit a new diary entry. They also need to see past entries and edit them.

Submitting the diary entry is pretty straightforward with a form and submit button. Displaying that information is similar to displaying profile information and we have that down.

But the tricky parts are:

  1. Displaying a list of past entries. Is this best done with in repeater that is filtered by owner?

  2. Once the items are displayed what’s the best way the member selects an entry and edits it? Where are we linking the member to? Is it another form? Are the permissions to this form read/write?

  3. When we are working in Preview (not published) we’re not sure if the permissions are getting in the way of seeing true functionality.

By watching the online seminars we gather this can be done. But the full permission set and deeper aspects are often glossed over in these presentations.

If you can point us to tutorials that cover this that would be great. Or if you have specific advice to share here we would appreciate it. Our client clock is ticking and it’s taking too much time for our team to figure this out.

Partner Power!

Thanks so much! :sunglasses:

Hey Ed,

Take a look at this maintenance program I wrote and let me know if this is similar to what you are looking for - Plant Based Meals (trainsmartfit.com)

You will have to create a member account to be able to access this member page. It’s ok to create a new member, I will delete when done. If after you log in you get lost the link you are clicking is the “Click Here To Record a Meal” in the Header area.

Hey Ed,

One more thing. The program I just forwarded you does not have an Edit feature because the client didn’t want one. This is very simple to add as the user just has to click on the item in the table that they want to edit and it displays in the form for editing.

Thanks Michael, waiting for approval on the membership request.

Ed - what email address did you register with? This client gets a fair amount per day.

Hey Mike, thanks for connecting wit me and sharing great advice!
