Different thumbnails, different image files

Hello everyone!
I’m very new to Wix, so I’m still trying to learn and understand a lot of things.

I see we have gallery with thumbnails, but customization options seem limited. With Wix Code, is there a way to edit this thumbnail gallery so that:

  1. Thumbnails are different image files than the image itself;
  2. Thumbnails can be in a separate box (not adjacent to the image)

Maybe if I create a separate gallery with the thumbnails in question, and upon click have an image show up in a separate field? But again, I only see options to load image in a lightbox or separate tab… Isn’t there a way to load the image on the same page, inside another box?
