Emails won't deliver despite updating DNS records

My emails won’t deliver to gmail adresses and I understand that I need to add an SPF or DKIM record. I’ve followed every guide to the letter and added an SPF record, but that did not fix the problem. Then I added a DKIM record as well, still no change. I added both as a TXT record and waited for more than 48 hours before testing.

The message I get is:

"SMTP error from remote server for TEXT command, host: gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com (74.125.143.26) reason: 550-5.7.26 This mail is unauthenticated, which poses a security risk to the sender and Gmail users, and has been blocked. The sender must authenticate with at least one of SPF or DKIM. For this message, DKIM checks did not pass and SPF check for [suzannebirch.com] did not pass with ip: [212.227.17.24]

The SPF record I created is the following: “v=spf1 include:_spf-us.ionos.com ~all”, which is what I got from my host Ionos.

I thought I needed to do something with the IP address, but the IP is different in every error message I get back…

I’ve been stuck on this for a long time and would be super grateful for any insights!

Hey @suzannedewaard!

This seems like something Wix Support would be able to help with. They’ll be able to look into it from their end and should have greater insight into what’s happening.

Let us know how it goes

I have had this issue for months too. My domain is hosted by 123-reg but pointed to Wix (can’t transfer to Wix yet as .global isn’t supported), and have set up a TXT SPF record but no success. I can’t get a DKIM key out of 123-reg at this point so that’s my next challenge.

Anyone who can help?

Have you had a chance to chat with Wix Support yet?

Thank you, I’ve been away and chatted to them briefly before I left. They asked me to make some changes to my DNS records (mainly delete a bunch of them), but it didnt fix the problem. I’ll try again hopefully this week!

Any update on this issue. I’ve also had this issue for months.

Sadly not… Helpdesks arent much help, Wix tells me I have to fix it with Ionos and Ionos tells me I have to fix it with Wix  So frustrating… I’m considering moving my domain + host to Wix altogether, but I have no idea whether that will fix the problem!

I had the same issue a while back. (Also with IONOS)

I can’t remember if there was more to it but I had to add a TXT record.

From the Wix Dashboard > Settings >Domains > DNS Records

Add a TXT file

Hostname: (your website. ie. 'bigbertha.co.uk) I left the first empty field box empty
Value: “v=spf1 include:_spf-eu.ionos.com ~all”
TTL: 1hour (Not sure why?)

Hope that might help.

Hi Dan, thank you. Yes, that’s what I’ve done and it still doesn’t work! I see you’ve added it via Wix, was this enough to fix the issue for you? If yes, then the problem is at Wix’s end which is helpful to know

I’ll have a look later to see if I did any more than that.

You mention in your original post

The SPF record I created is the following: “v=spf1 include:_spf-us.ionos.com ~all”, which is what I got from my host Ionos.

That needs to be a TXT (Text) record. (Not SPF)

Hi,

Did you resolve this? I am having a similar issue, Ionos has provided the following: v=spf1 include:_spf.ionos.com ~all

It’s been 48hrs since adding and still get google bounce back issue.

I read somewhere that it may require quote marks: “v=spf1 include:_spf.ionos.com ~all” but it will not allow me to save when I include them.

Scrolling the thread I see people using us or spf-us.ionos.com or spf-eu.ionos.com Ionos only sent me v=spf1 include:_spf.ionos.com ~all ??

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Nope, I’ve never been able to solve it… I’ve now made a gmail address and am not using the ionos webmail anymore, sadly!

I have managed to to get this working, turns out Ionos had sent the wrong details.

In the Wix DNS Records in the TXT you need to include the following 2 settings:

SPF/TXT
host: @ (or leave blank)
value: v=spf1 include:_spf-eu.ionos.com ~all

DMARC/TXT
host: _dmarc
value: v=DMARC1;p=none
