Feature Brainstorming: Add Panel in the Mobile Editor (What if?!)

If the Mobile Editor hypothetically had and add panel:

  • What are some instances where you are likely to use it? How would you apply it to mobile-only available content?

  • What components would you like to have in this hypothetical mobile add panel?

We want to your thoughts, so let us know in the comments section below!

Ok) Am I first?
The first things come in my mind randomly

  1. Text themes for mobile (globally changed)
  2. Adding elements only for mobile
  3. For the welcome screen - adding text (not only images)
  4. Parallax

Thanks @chernolya for this!
1,3,4 - noted!
Lets focus on 2:
Which elements would you like to add to the mobile site?
Can you describe a scenario in which you need a different content on mobile?

Thanks

@idan-cohen for example, for an app websites always needed different buttons or html embedding only for mobile users, so they can download an app on their phone. I hide them on desktop which is ok, but not ideal

Also for design purposes: I use strips and columns a lot and on mobile the columns have only one layout - vertical. I need them to be more flexible or add elements separately to keep the same design

I will think of more casesšŸ‘ŒšŸ»

Regarding mobile, first, Iā€™d like to say the Wix Mobile Editor is super under-rated and is in my personal opinion as a web developer the single best, pound for pound Mobile Editor on the internet today.

Everything from the Splash Screen, Google Theme Colour(Yes Colour I live in Canada and we spell it with a u) and QAB makes this an excellent product.

What Iā€™d like to see on the Mobile Editor is to allow a function that would let us send a notification to users to save our ā€œWebsiteā€ on the userā€™s iPhone or Andriod Screen, thus giving an app like experience.
I know this is possible already thanks to Corvid but this should be under ā€˜Toolsā€™ and should be made easier, faster, and a great way to provide user retention. Most users are on Mobile anyways when browsing thatā€™s why the emphasis on developing and designing a Mobile-First User Experience is so important.

What do yaā€™ll think?

WOW thanks @alinbaho for the kind words!
I agree about the web push notification and hope we will get to it the near future.
Iā€™m very interested to hear what you think about the concept of add panel in the mobile editor.

  • Would you use it?
  • For what use cases?
  • Which elements would you like to put on mobile to present different content then desktop?

Thanks

@idan-cohen This is an interesting concept yes, regarding the + add panel seen on the desktop it does offer many elements to build out the type of website your looking for. It would be a great addition to the Mobile Design Experience. Now letā€™s look at why we would need it when designing and building out the Mobile Experience.

By default, anything we add/create/develop gets put into the Mobile Editor for us to set ā€œVirtualā€ everything goes down on Mobile.

This is a Great idea if
Youā€™d like to create a unique Mobile Specific Experience that is not seen on the Desktop.

Products that have a Great Mobile Experience
The New WIX Blog has the best Mobile Experience Product Wise, sorry WIX Forums your updates all the time to design isnā€™t something well noted. You had something good but kept messing it up.

Ask your self, Would it over-complicate the Mobile building Experience?
Designers and Developers want to do less work than more work because by default if you are building a website from a blank canvas in WIX you technically building two websites, a Mobile and a Desktop.

My Honest thoughts
Giving us more ability to create a custom experience is always better than giving us less, you canā€™t always know what someone wants to design or build hence giving more is better.

Allowing us to have a (+ Add Panel) would be a great feature if it allows us to build more and outside of the current limitation of the Editor.

Maybe a Cause of Use?
Iā€™m a website that the experience is Mobile Specific however I need a desktop website to Submit to Google because otherwise, I may not rank and ever get found.

For the Desktop Experience, I create a Lightbox that pops up when users land and lets them know ā€œHey visit us on your Mobile Deviceā€ They visit the Mobile Verison of the website to realize itā€™s a complete build-out website with its own unique features and functions.

Features Iā€™d love to see Move Forward into Stand-Alone Products + Add Panel
Look at some of the Store Elements / Single Product Element / Images / Strips / Buttons. Remember in order to show any of these they need to be on your desktop. Might consider everything.

I dunno thoughts

@idan-cohen Feel free to check out my latest video titled, How to Create a Product Subscription Website with WIX Online Store.

I agree with you that in 90% of cases you need mobile exact or less elements that are on desktop cause eventually it is the same website. Sometime on mobile there is different content presented. like: different image cause the image on desktop is more landscape oriented and on mobile you want similar image that is portrait oriented. So I would to hear more about those cases from you and other partners.

@idan-cohen Yes, imagine being NEW to WIX and having never done this before? As a Pro I know exactly what to do, select a specific element, and hide it on Mobile and Show it on Desktop, but for someone New?

Maybe consider the following
A Toggle, the desktop experience has ā€œDev Modeā€ why not the Mobile Editor have ā€˜Expert Modeā€™ introducing all the Funinailities of the Desktop Editor into Mobile? I donā€™t expect everyone to use it but for someone like me who does this for a living, it would allow me to create more.

You guys are smart, I donā€™t know the exact solution at the moment but this would be a great place to start and expand.

Thanks for the feedback @alinbaho !

Maybe I am outside the lines but with a really advanced Add Pannel like @alinbaho said I would see another thing that could be a huge game change for Wix.

The possibility to turn the mobile version into an app that we can submit easily on Androis/IOS. I know that Solutions exist like https://www.mymobileapp.online/ but it could be an in-house solution inside of Wix that we can manage in the dashboard (analytics, push notifications, ā€¦).

During the past years the mobile version has evolved in a great way (thanks to @idan-cohen ) and I really enjoy to use it. Juste missing different things like Parallax, possibility to stretch the strips like on desktop, some apps that could have a better layout design possibilities like Wix Video but itā€™s just details. Overall is really nice in my opinion.

So I would see an add pannel with different native features available in it. For example : you have a website with Wix member app or member area build with Corvid and you can have an element for download a profile photo that let the user take a photo directly with his smartphone camera.

Thanks @reversewebagency for the detailed answer!
The upload button we have today in the add panel provides the functionality you describe. So on desktop it gives users to upload from computer and on mobile users can choose image from device of take photo directly from phone camera.
Iā€™m looking for cases where you want something unique on mobile.
Case where today you take an element and using code you hide it on desktop so it appear on mobile only, cause you donā€™t have an add panel on mobile.
