Just wanted to bring to your attention that there is a lot of empty space that appears on the bottom of the pages (between the end of the body and the footer), when we use collapsed elements. If we expand all elements, then the space fits perfectly. As such, it looks like the page body takes all the space it needs as if the elements were expanded. Here is an example:
It is not a problem for small collapsed elements, but can become an issue when there are large text bodies that are collapsed, which is how I was planning to use the feature.
The reason for the space is the 70/10 rule with collapse.
Lets assume we have two elements A and B, one above the other (A above B).
If the distance between A and B is up to 70px , when A collapse, B will move up to fill the space
If the distance between A and B is over 70px , when A collapse, B will not move up.
In your case, the distance between the end of the page content and the site footer is 93px , which is above the 70px threshold and thats why the footer does not move up.
Thank you fo the information Yoav. I’ll try to keep the distance <70px, when possible. Is there a way to easily check the distance between two elements?
Update: I just figured out two ways to measure the pixels - using the Wix toolbar, and using the screengrab tool on my Macbook. I thought I’d post it here, in case someone else who stumbles upon this thread has a similar question.
Hi Team Wix and Wix community! A follow up question o rsuri’s question above, regarding collapsible elements creating white space between the end of the page and the footer…
Given this 70/10 rule, is there any workaround? I am trying to create collapsible elements with long text bodies. This creates a very large space between the end of the last strip and the footer. Can I do something to eliminate that gap, so that the footer starts at the end of the last strip?
I am having the same issue. I cannot quite understand the distance rule. Can you please take a look on my site (thinkdh.wixsite.com/christy) and let me know how to resolve the issue? Thank you very much in advance for your help.
@_tal Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. After following steps 1-4, the page height seems to have shortened. I have gone back to check each strip a second time. If I do Ctrl X to cut the strip, there is no more room to further adjust the page; however, there still seems to be some white space remaining at the bottom. Can you please advise?
I have upgraded to the premium plan, and the new website domain is www.thinkdh.co
I actually believe there is an issue with the wix construct. No matter what you do, the white space can not be alleviated. It will not allow you to place a collapsed element down against the footer
So it sounds as though you just simply cannot use the collapsable function on Wix if you want to utilize more space than 70px? If that is the case, it sounds like I might have to move my site elsewhere because a lot of other web creators provide this function. Simply put I need more space than 70px because I have copy that I want to expand upon click and if I only use 70px to for that copy, it would be virtually too small to read any of it.
@_tal I’m not entirely sure this will fix my problem. I have a GIANT white space at the bottom of my page and cannot seem to alleviate it. Cutting the strip and pasting it back doesn’t do the trick.
If anyone is still having issues with this problem, I think this post has the most thorough explanation (and solution) related to the problem. It definitely solved my problem.
