Gated content: Document downloads that require email addresses in order to access

Looking to create a repeater list of document titles/descriptions with ‘Download’ buttons which, when clicked, ask for an email address, downloading the content after the user hits submit.

Is there a way to achieve this?

I checked with our team and it looks like this is not possible directly in the editor but it should be possible to achieve with code.
