I’m a graphic designer with web development experience and as I’ve been working on a website using Editor X for my current employer I’ve been let down by the lack of a column layout tool.
AdobeXD has implemented this feature almost perfectly. Users can select their desired column settings for each artboard (or webpage in the case of Wix) and dial in exactly what size they would like their grid to be. Users can also set a default grid that is applied on all pages ensuring that layouts stay consistent throughout the site. To contrast, in Editor X users have Wix’s smart guides equivalent which are nice but not quite as visually helpful as XD’s grid overlay UI.
Grids help with creating a uniform layout for all pages which is currently something that I’ve found no way to do as a built-in function in either iteration of the Wix editor. At the moment I’ve had to resort to designing my interfaces in separate software (Adobe XD), copying all the values and creating corresponding sized elements for each page just to ensure that element positioning is similar throughout my client’s new website.
Frankly this process is quite silly and also really slow.
I know for a fact that the developers at Wix know the value of columns and grids because the entirety the Wix.com homepage is arranged with display:grid; and while the way you’ve done things there is a little different than how things are created with EditorX it would be great to have a visual way of knowing how my content is aligned so I don’t have to eyeball it on every single page.
