Hello.
Is there a way to force my mobile site to ALWAYS appear on a mobile device ?
As of now, if you press and hold the “reload” arrow (in upper corner of URL bar) while on an iPhone, a pop-up will appear that shows a “Request Desktop Site” button. If visitors select this button, it will take them to the “desktop version” of my site. I DO NOT WANT THIS!!
I would like visitors to remain on my mobile site - not my desktop site - while on their mobile device. (Besides, once they click to redirect to the desktop version, they cannot go back to the mobile version! There is no ‘back’ arrow, so they’re stuck where they are.)
This is something that happens on many websites, not just mine. It seems like an iOS or browser capability - outside of Wix.
However, I’ve also noticed several websites that are able to block this from happening - forcing visitors to stay on their mobile site. An example is Apple.com . (See attachment.)
Does anyone know a ‘hack’ code that I can put on my Wix mobile pages that will also block the view of my desktop site like Apple.com is able to do?
You can choose to enable or disable the mobile-friendly view of your site and if you decide you don’t want the mobile view, you can choose to display the desktop view on mobile devices.
Thank you for your reply. I already have the “enable” mobile-friendly view selected.
(Which is a site-wide option and not page-specific, unfortunately.)
When a visitor uses a mobile device (phone) they can still press and hold down the “reload” arrow in the URL bar to take them to the desktop site… which I do not want.
I want them to remain on the mobile view always , without an option to switch to desktop. There are other websites out there that can do this - force visitors to remain on the mobile site - even if they select the “Request Desktop Site” button. I would like that for my site as well.
Is there a code I can place on my site to block mobile phone visitors from being able to see the desktop version? (Some workaround if they press the “reload” arrow which could redirect them or cause them to remain on the mobile site.)
I received an email notification saying that “syhrlhlmy” commented on this forum post. However, her post doesn’t appear here. Don’t know why it got deleted?? Below is a snapshot of my email notification:
Hi, thank you for your concern about my post recently. Actually I have found the answer to my question and I decided to pull back my post. Thank you for your fast response!
Hello.
Ok, good. Just wanted to be sure you were getting the help you needed.
Curious… were you able to bypass the “Request Desktop Site” button from appearing and/or prevent a mobile phone user from viewing the desktop version of your site?
(Thus, keeping them on the mobile site version at all times.)
Hi there, sorry that I’m not because I don’t intended to do that but the otherwise. In my case, I want the user always view my website in web version so that I don’t need to rearrange my web layout for mobile and they able to view full content.
Sorry that I can’t help you but hoping that you will able to find your solution soon mate!
This is not really a Wix issue, this is a feature that is available on Apple and Android phones with both systems letting you have the choice in the browser settings to show either the mobile or desktop versions of the site.
Plus, you can see that this was already added as a feature request along time ago, although Wix can’t set something that is not in their own control and unless Apple or Andriod change their own settings, then I can’t see it happening anytime soon.
I have used my own code here and there throughout my site. I’m definitely not a “code master” by any means, but I’m able to get by somewhat thru trial and error after researching.
This is what is so confusing to me…
I have been to several website businesses on my mobile phone that obviously display a mobile site version (as their desktop site looks completely different.) These businesses do not display a huge “Request Desktop Site” button.
A few of these businesses may have a small “View Desktop Site” link at the bottom of their home page that can redirect their customers to see their desktop version if they want to. But several other places do not provide any such link at all. I try to connect to their desktop site, but I can’t.
So it seems as though it is possible to prevent mobile viewers from seeing a desktop site on their mobile phone. If other places are able to do it, then it leads me to believe there is a way that I can do it, too, using Wix… which is why I posted this in the first place.
Since Wix makes it possible to have separate displays and formats for desktop vs. mobile, I’ve already designed my website that way. My desktop version is not mobile-friendly b/c I have a mobile version that is. So the solution Yevheniia mentioned (only using the desktop version) unfortunately does not work for me.
I appreciate your assistance and the other links you provided. I will definitely take a look at them. Wish there was some sort of code “hack” where I could at least hide the huge “Request Desktop Site” button.

I bet they use responsive design (RD/RWD), to adapt to any screen/window size, rather than having separate versions (which IMO would be a poor choice). Search online for “responsive design” and you will find the answer.
Thank you for your reply, but I don’t understand what you mean about finding an “answer” online. Did you mean I would find the “reason” online?
Regardless of whether or not other websites use true RD/RWD or separate versions… I really need my visitors to remain on the mobile version. If they click that button and go to my desktop version, it will look like a hot mess on a mobile phone… (which is why I created a separate, mobile friendly site in the first place.)
And to make matters worse, there suddenly is no ‘back’ arrow to go back to the mobile version. You can’t even press and hold the “reload” arrow again for a pop-up button that says "RequestMobileSite" !!
I found two sites (Target and Office Depot) that look like they are true responsive websites… but you get different results when clicking their “Request Desktop Site” button:
If they can choose, why can’t I choose where to send my visitors too?
There has to be a way. I tried to find a javascript ‘fix’ for this problem to no avail.
Can anyone help??
p.s. - By the way, what I like about having separate editing versions is that I don’t have to use the same exact large-sized images that are on my desktop to also display on my mobile. I can switch them to much smaller sizes and/or cropped images which helps my mobile pages load faster.
Responsive design means having a single version of a website which adapts to any window (or screen) size and orientation. Having separate versions for mobile/tablet/desktop is the opposite.
Sorry Jake. Still not connecting with your conversation. I know what “responsible design” means and what “separate versions” are. That’s not the issue.
When you originally said " Search online… and you will find the answer" …
I thought you meant there would be an answer - as in a solution or javascript code - that I can use to bypass the button’s link to my desktop version.
So your response seems to be more of a “reason why it happens” rather than an answer like “here you will find javascript code that you can use to fix your problem.”
You are correct… I should have said “responsive” design. That is what I meant. My bad.
But I still think you and I have different views on how we are trying to explain what “answer” means. I’m not looking to argue with you, so I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that.
What I DO agree with you is that WIX does not offer true responsive design.
If I knew that in the beginning, I never would have signed up with them.
But back when I started, they advertised that their website designs WERE responsive, which many of us found out not to be true. I was beyond upset about it. (They claim now that their beta “Editor X” platform will allow for true RD… but unless they adapt that to the original Wix platform as well, I have no time nor the interest to create a new website from scratch at this point.)
A long time ago I used to create websites with HTML /CSS and could enter a “hack” code or an override to force certain elements to behave differently depending on the screen size that was displaying them. I did it all the time.
I’m not that well versed with javascript, so that’s what made me post this question in the first place. And now that Corvid by Wix allows us to enter certain HTML and CSS onto our sites, it further peaks my interest.
Could there be an answer/solution/hack/override… (meaning - an actual javascript or HTML/CSS code) to force this button’s link to behave differently? Even on a Wix platform? Any CSS media queries that can force visitors to stay on a ‘mobile version’… even if it’s not a responsive design?
I was hoping to see specific information in the link that you sent about the “Request Desktop Site” button in association with Responsive Design.
The more I google about this darn button, the more I see mobile device users in favor of it. :-/
Editor X and the original Wix Editor are converging, and Editor X will have the full power and capabilities of the original, plus the added power and flexibilty of Responsive design. There are already many published real-life sites built with Editor X .
I would recommend visiting the Editor X community to see what actual site creators and designers are doing and discussing.
I played around with Editor X today and eagerly looked for an “import” menu of some sort to drag over elements from the Wix Editor of the site I’m currently working on. One can hope.
How are Editor X and the original Wix Editor converging? Do you mean will they become one platform (as only Editor X ) or remain as two separate platforms with a few similarities?
In addition, I was looking for the “Strip” element in Editor X , but couldn’t find it. That is what I mostly use on the site I have now. Will this element become a part of Editor X ?
