How to use Cloud Fonts like Adobe Typekit?

Hi,

For my other sites I use cloud.typography from Hoefler&Co it’s a similar system as Typekit from Adobe where you add a string of code to the header to get access to their font library for your site.

I’m new to Wix and Editor X and want to use my subscription as buying and uploading the typefaces for each site I have isn’t economically sustainable. I found this thread here where they say to add the string of code to the in tracking&analytics. I’ve now tried that but can’t figure out if it’s working or how to access the typefaces in Editor X?

Any help is appreciated.

Being able to use Cloud fonts seems like a table stakes functionality.

Cheers
NP

Hi,

I’m Roni, Product Manager from the Editor X product team.

Unfortunately, you cannot currently integrate fonts from Typekit and similar solutions to be used in Editor X. You can, as you understood already yourself, download fonts that you have purchased, and upload them to be used in your account. Note that fonts you upload are shared across your entire account, so you do not need to upload a specific font again and again for any site you wish to use it in.

We’re constantly working to improve Editor X and its capabilities, and we’ll be sure to bring this request into account.

Thanks

Hi Roni,

Thanks for getting back to me!

That’s a shame. Typefaces are expensive and buying a license that I can upload is about 300-700USD a year per typeface and site vs. the 99USD a year subscription I have now that gives me access to the full Hoefler library for up to 10 websites. So even if I can technically use a typeface across several sites with one upload, I still need to pay licensing per site and year. Which isn’t sustainable. So it would be really good if this could be incorporated in coming updates as it would open up to more personalize sites and designs.

Thanks

Perfectly understood. I will make sure to share this with the rest of our team, as we look forward for future updates!

Thanks again,
Roni

@roni-fialkow This is a showstopper for me. You could probably test/code/test/deploy this feature in an hour. Would add tremendous value to your application for very little effort.

@roni-fialkow Well, if you wanted to validate the CSS from the cloud server, maybe three hours. Still a lot of bang for the buck.

Dear @roni-fialkow , do you have an update about this issue using Adobe Fonts on Wix? For me as a designer this decides about keep using WIX for my websites or not. I’m sorry, but it’s really a shame if you can’t fix this since years.

I am still optimistic and look forward to a solution very soon.

All the best,
Melanie

Testing and exploring EDITOR X. Already have a website hosted on WIX. Being able to integrate Adobe Font API token is an absolute must-have and yet, not available on either platform. This doesn’t come across as a logical nor economical solution when it comes to web design. Not suitable for my clients. Have to stick with WEBFLOW for upcoming projects.

Hi!

Any updates on this yet? I’m trying to decide which website builder to use, and not being able to use Adobe Fonts is a huge minus for Editor X. Hope this will be fixed soon.

Hi @mirellapenttila . I am Carmel from the Editor X team. Currently you can only upload external fonts. Integrating fonts is something we are investigating. Thank you very much for your feedback it is very valuable to help us improve Editor X.

Figuring out how I can integrate Adobe Fonts is huge. Can we do this by adding custom code to the of our sites from Adobe Typekit? If there is a way to do this now and I’m missing it, please let me know. Thanks!

@carmelsc @roni-fialkow How long does it take to get something as straight forward as Adobe Fonts integrated!? This thread started 18months ago!

Editor X is targeted at designers; designers typically use Adobe subscriptions (and if not, likely still use fonts from Adobe); Figma and all other design software integrates with Adobe Fonts; yet Editor X doesn’t integrate. There’s no way I’m signing up for Editor X until this is a possibility.

Even in the Editor X Typography article it states “The most common web font providers are Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts (formerly Typekit).”

You say the design possibilities are endless with Editor X, however, in fact there are major limitations to typography, a key feature of digital design solutions. This needs to be made a priority. Until then, most professional designers will not be happy with the limitations.

PS. please allow for easier Google Fonts integration while you’re at it- downloading and uploading from a web-hosted service to then, well, host on the web again seems like additional effort.

Further to this, you’re missing out on potential sites. Consider this scenario:

  1. Client approaches Editor X designer to create a site;
  2. Designer checks the brand’s visual identity guidelines and realises that the client’s brand uses Adobe fonts for headings;
  3. Designer loses project or builds on another platform, as Editor X does not allow for Adobe Fonts to integrate;
  4. Designer and client lose faith in Editor X as a possible platform and mentions it to others in their networks.

Thank you for discussing everything in such detail, it’s very helpful!!!

@hello6600 you’re 1000% accurate on all points. Just lost a client for an Editor X site based on this. They can’t justify spending more than the cost of the wix annual premium to use their brands fonts, all of which are Adobe. @communityxteam This should be remedied by now, got any updates for us?

Would really, really love Adobe font integration as well.

Until then, I’ve found a hacky work around. Note, while this works when viewing a live/published site, the huge drawback of this solution is the Adobe fonts won’t appear when editing the site. Granted, this is quite painful, but until Wix gets their act together, this could work in a pinch.

Add two custom code files to Head (you could group these into one file, I like the separation):

  1. Contains the Adobe font url
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://use.typekit.net/######.css">
  1. Contains custom CSS styling common elements
<style>
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, span, li {
  font-family: mrs-eaves, serif !important;
  font-weight: 400 !important;
  font-style: normal !important;
}
</style>

Any update on this yet? This feature is super important to me as well.

unfortunately no updates on Adobe Fonts integration yet, we will forward your feedback to the team on this, such sort of integration is two side process, so it could take time

Still no support for cloud-based font libraries? and literally, years to get it sorted - Seriously? Editor X is being pitched as a ‘professional’ tool…
