I’m following these instructions…
Apparently using Google tag manager i can install the JavaScript snippet without needing access to the HTML.
The trouble is, i need to dump a javascript in the root directory.
Can anyone help?

@Ryan Have you figured this out yet?
If not the best way to do this is probably via the Tracking Tools and Analytics capability in the Site dashboard.
Take a look at this and see if this helps.
