Introducing Content Manager Folders and Access (Concept)

With the introduction of the Single Item Collections, now is the time to introduce Folders and Access to the content manager. Choose between 2 views in the top right corner, folders or access.

Limit who can change content on the site, and organise those collections!

Please be aware that this is a concept (NOT REAL) and is NOT endorsed by Wix in any way.

Noah, I’m so sharing this with the team.

@noahlovell It’s Liuda from the Content Manager team. This concept is just great! Thanks for sharing it!

Could you please tell us a bit more:

  1. How do you think can folders be helpful if they don’t include sharing setting? We know that the ability to manage collections permissions is crucial, but I wonder if you find folders useful just for organizing the Content manager workspace?

  2. In the concept, you show folders for Site pages, Dynamic pages, and Other. Is this just an example, or do you think it’s important to separate collections that contain static and dynamic pages?

@liudmylan Awesome! When I have an idea, I like to create a concept as I think it helps people understand the idea better. So, I’m glad you like it!:facepunch:

  1. I know there are sites where there are 20/30 datasets, and with the edition of single item datasets, I can see that number growing. I’m currently working on a site where I am using single item datasets on pages along with multiple item datasets. Being able to group them in folders makes it easier for a client accessing them to know what they are for. So, ultimately, the purpose of the idea is to tidy up the content manager. (Might also make it easier to see who has access to what collections. :man_shrugging:) At the moment, we can’t sort the collections, or re-order them.

  2. The names of the folders were just examples, but I think ultimately, the idea was that people would be able to add them to folders which suited their needs. Perhaps folders based on access permissions, pages they’re used on, types of pages etc.

Hope this is helpful, and if you’d like to discuss more, let me know :facepunch:

I’ve been needing this! Would like to be able to organize automations and email templates like this as well.

@liudmylan - Hey! Robert here from velomasters, I’d be happy to have a call on this topic with you. Please reach out on slack if you would like
