Issue Connecting a New Wix Site to GitHub Repository – "There was an error connecting to GitHub"

Question:
I am trying to connect a new Wix site to a new GitHub repository, but I am encountering an error.

Product:
Git Integration with Wix CLI

What are you trying to achieve:
I already have a Wix site successfully connected to a GitHub repository. Now, I want to connect a second Wix site to a new GitHub repository. I followed the same instructions as before:
Setting Up Git Integration with Wix CLI, but I am facing an issue.

What have you already tried:

  • When I start the “Connect to GitHub” dialog, it jumps directly to “Install Application,” skipping the “Create Repository” step. Because of this, I manually created the repository on GitHub.
  • During installation, I select “Only select repositories” and choose the two repositories that should have Velo App access. However, after clicking “Approve and Install,” Wix returns with a loading screen, then displays the error message:
“There was an error connecting to GitHub. Refresh the page and try again.”
  • I have tried refreshing the page, clearing cookies and local storage, switching browsers, but nothing works. The error persists.

Additional information:
Is there anything else I should check or configure to successfully connect my new Wix site to GitHub? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This means that the velo app is not installed. I’m not sure why it skipped that step - i haven’t seen this behavior before.

Without the velo app step, the connection will not be created so the repo that you created manually can’t be connected.

Unfortunately if you test again and this continues to happen you will want to open a bug ticket with customer care
