Members (Contacts) vs. Dataset

OK, I have read the various articles about “How to Create Member Profile Pages with Wix Code” and the like. What I would like to have is the Wix Contacts act more like any other Dataset (database). Ideally, you would be able to see your Contacts in the list of Datasets that you have for your site You could also then see the ID field of a user in the Contacts and use that as a field for an entry in another dataset by assigning that ID to the “owner” field.
The need for this is that I have a boating website, while the world can see the site, only those people that are registered members should be able to go into the boats dataset and edit the information about their boat, and no others. Finally, there needs to be a members-only storefront that reads the boat length value for the logged in user from the boats dataset and populates the qty field for a shopping cart (your registration fee for a race is based on the length of the boat).
Straight-forward in concept, but difficult to get Wix to do this.
Naturally, I welcome any and all ideas about how to accomplish this!

I agree with Paul. What is the point of creating a Contact List and maintaining it when we can only really manipulate and work with the dataset on the pages?
I would like to have a registration page which give all my Dataset members access to ONLY CERTAIN PAGES.

Can this be done?

Agreed. I’m doing a class reunion site now where the client is requesting to parse the contacts to a directory page from members. ATM I cannot because WIX contacts is not attached to a dataset. I try to import wixUsers using js, but I get an error on wixUsers. Even tried looking into inserting hooks in datasets to add the entries dynamically as they were created in members, but the functionality does not exist. As a stopgap, I attempted to bypass creating a dataset and attempted to utilize the forum app, but there are redundant features like member logins (when i already implemented a loging element in the header) and the forums section. After stripping down the app, I could not add any custom fields to the member’s profiles. only one text field for “about”. The design is way too static.

Please please add the aforementioned feature. Wix almost gets it, but always falls short in their navigational design. Keep it up though! I just switched back to wix from Squarespace. Looking forward to this feature! :metal::metal::metal:

Hello Wix? Anyone paying attention there? Any advice or thoughts on this issue?

Hi guys,

I will tell you a secret. Here at Wix we hear you loud and clear and we are working on exactly the features Paul described. Stay tuned!

Is there any progress on this? I need to finish two projects that are being held up for weeks because of this issue. Thanks.

Yakup…
This is my point. All we get is… They are working on it. No feedback, no response and when they do reply it’s a condescending attitude expecting you to be a JavaScript master. This is why I am in 2 minds about wix.
There are just too many loose ends.

Wix. Why don’t you pay me to run CRM here for your users… at least reply within 1 month.

Was there ever an update on this looking for the same feature and new to Wix

I also need to interact with Contacts through code - but it seems like Wix are not interested?
