Requested Feature: Option to remove "register" button in Wix Events app

There’s already been some suggestions on how to handle the REGISTER button problem and I have one too. Allow us to change the text on the button to MORE INFO or MORE INFORMATION, let it take us to the next page where we have the OPTION of RSVP or REGISTER. That would be simple and perhaps meet most people actual needs

Found the instructions on how to do it! Thanks!

I just changed the RSVP text to “More Details.” On the manage events settings page, you can add a photo and the location with a map for the event. I tested it out and preview…So why then if I’m navigating the site, and I click “More Details” I cant see the location or photo, or any actual details for that matter? Instead a box pops up that wants me to “Add Your Details” and asks me to fill out my name and email!! REALLY STUPID!!! Again people do not need to register for my events!!! I dont understand why we cant just have the option to remove the RSVP option!

I did the same thing and ended up changing the RSVP button to More Details. But as youll see below, I was testing this in preview mode and a box pops up and still wants the site visitor to register! So aggravating!

I’m developing my first Wix site, having built a number using WordPress, and I’d like to add my voice to to the debate about RSVPs & Registration. Although I’ve done my best to discover the Settings, excuse me if as a newbie I comment on something which is already available.

I’ve spent some time looking for a suitable event app, but I keep coming back to this Wix app for one key reason: I want my user to be able to add events for himself and the fact that he will be able to do this in a simple way from the site dashboard without editing the site is a big benefit. So I’m trying to set the app up in the way we want. The sticking points are RSVP and registration. In passing, it’s odd to me that you have chosen for your base design such a narrow definition of an event - one where the default is to register and respond. My customer is an author. So for him an event could be to announce a TV documentary based on one of his books to be shown from a date in 2020. Nothing to do with tickets, attendees and so on.

In my opinion the job of settings in general are to establish the desired parameters or environment for the function, including those elements which would make sense for the user to have options that can be selected on the (event) entry form. In this specific case I would want the ability to turn off registration and RSVP altogether in Settings, and when either is turned on, for the user entering an event via the dashboard to be able to check either if they want registration or RSVP for a specific event. Most importantly I don’t want the user to have to access the app settings at all when entering an event via the dashboard. It’s just data entry task at that stage and he only need to enter info and select options.

There doesn’t seem to be any word yet on when your enhancements will see the light of day, so please make it as soon as possible, and look at the functionality and settings design from the standpoint of the user creating his / her events, and consider the broadest possibilities that could be an event and not confine your design to a quite specific type.

I got an email from Wix about my post which is great and thank you for that. I assumed the email was to tell me that a reply had been posted here, but it seems not - the email was the reply! It would be good if you could post replies here.

So here’s what was sent to me in response;

Hello! Thank you for your feedback. I can see your point, but majority of Events app users need the registration. Indeed it is essential. In your case, when there is no need for registration, the Repeater may serve your needs. Here is good read about how it works: https://support.wix.com/en/article/about-repeaters Please let us know if you have any questions!

Thank you for leaving your review - your feedback is important!
If you’d like to re-rate this app, you can do so at any time, here .

So you say the majority of Events users need registration. I don’t know how you know this, but even if it’s true there is clearly a significant group that wants registration to be an option - not compulsory and not removed altogether. Indeed the post that started this thread was on this very issue:

I really like the way the Wix Events app looks and would like to use it for all the events for my church. The only issue is that I don’t always need people to register for every event. It would be nice to be able to remove the “register” button for certain events. This way all my events will look cohesive in the Wix Events app without causing confusion as to whether someone has to register or not. Thanks!

In your response to that first post you acknowledge the requirement by saying in the near future we will allow you to hide the RSVP button via the app.

So that’s what we need! In my own way I was just adding my support to that request and giving my own reasons why.

Can you now say now that we are almost in Nov 2019 when this option is slated for release?

Thanks for suggesting using the Repeater. I don’t really want to pursue this route. I want the user to be able to add events from the dashboard. and you’ve committed that the option to hide RSVP is coming. So I’d rather start out on the Events path and accept that it will not quite meet every need - yet.

@tal-gonenne I’m currently struggling with this - there IS no display setting

Super disappointed to find that this discussion has been going on nearly a year without resolution. I don’t know why it matters that ‘the majority of users need event registration’… so leave it on as a default but give us a toggle option to turn the display OFF on the Events format view.

OR, since that button is what takes you go the event details, make it so we can change the wording of the button to say, maybe, “Learn More” or “Details”.

Exactly!!!

It doesn’t seem like Wix wants to listen to user feedback, considering this thread has been active for almost a year and we’ve pretty much unanimously requested not to have a registration button. I couldn’t wrap my head around the repeater option, nor did I have the patience. Just give users the option to toggle the registration button on or off if it’s not needed. BOOM simple! Why won’t wiz make this happen??? Again people don’t need to register to look at a schedule of hockey games, so I had to bite the bullet and just make a still image of the events, which I have to go in and photoshop the changes and re-save every week. Unbelievable!

Hi all,

First, let me start by thanking you all for your suggestions and follow up. Rest assured that your comments are heard and we always welcome your feedback.

As most of you know, Wix Events is a dynamic app. This means that every change you make in the setting panel will affect all event pages. This is why when you “hide” the RSVP button in the event details page, it hides it for all the event pages. The same applies to changing the text on the RSVP button.

From your comments it appears that this is not what the majority of you would like to do, but rather you would like to show some events with RSVP button and some without.

While your suggestions do make a lot of sense, we have many other great features we’re working on at the moment, but this is definitely on our “to do” list. We can’t provide an ETA just yet, but we will update as soon as we have one.

However, when addressing your feedback before, we developed a solution using Wix Data (no coding needed) that allows you to build your own event gallery and event details page, where you decide what details and information to show on your pages, i.e. you don’t have to add a button.

This way, these events can be non RSVP events and serve for informative or promotional purposes.

You can read more about this in these articles:

https://support.wix.com/en/article/creating-a-custom-events-gallery
https://support.wix.com/en/article/creating-a-custom-event-details-page

Using this solution, you can showcase your RSVP events in the Events app and have a separate event list for events that don’t require the RSVP button.

While we offered this solution believing it answers to the common use case, your responses indicate that you’re not using it.

We would like to understand why, so we can improve our solution to fit your needs. It would be great if you could post here whether you tried the solution or not. If you have, do you feel this solution doesn’t help with your specific use case ? And most importantly - why is this not helpful in your opinion?

philippe12 is exactly right - it’s the main site user who needs to be able to manage the events, which isn’t necessarily the developer and isn’t in my case either. This capability is a key advantage of the event app.

This is a clip from my original post:

See above reply

@tal-gonenne Thanks I’ll give it a try - after Christmas!

@neilkashton Great! Enjoy the holiday season

So, my issue is not with the RSVP button on the event details page, but rather with the “Register Now” text on the “click to learn more information” button on the main events page. as my earlier past and image indicated. I want to be able to change the title of that button. Or replace it with a simple ‘Learn More’ link. Or something. Can you just provide a selection of button texts so we can choose one that doesn’t suggest people will have to register just to find out what the details are?

@megancorvus
Hi Megan, you can easily change the text of the button on the event list, and this change will reflect all buttons in your event list - [Screenshot by Lightshot](Screenshot by Lightshot

Let me know what you think

we are referring to the “Register” button, which is not affected by choosing to hide the RSVP button.
