Selling my own website templates

As a startup, I am finding that I am spending time creating concept work (websites) to expand my portfolio so new clients can see what I can do.

It seems a shame to let these websites go to waste so am considering selling them as templates.

Has anyone ever done this before? How have you gone about this? What is the best way to do this?

I am considering 2 options, setting up a shop and selling them as digital pieces. This would look after the payment section. Or setting up dynamic pages.

I would like there to be two options with the templates, either they by the template and I make them the owner and leave the site immediately, or they buy the template, they get added and I help them make adaptations. I would like them to choose this option when they purchase it.

Any advise would be great

Hey Noah, I have actually I have and sold templates in two ways

  1. Through the online store which is great but I find people needed guided support

  2. I now sell or over temples with video in my paid membership where I use the Wix online programs

It honestly all depends on your audience, for instance I also offer not just full sites but landing pages for instance I have a"course creators landing page template" that people can get transferred to their account where they copy all of the contents and add it as a page into their site. If you wanna chat more about it let me know I’ll send you my email.

Thanks for that!

Yeh, I thought the online store might be the best way to do this, and I’d love for there to be a section where they can choose between support or on their own. I’ve never used the store before, so not to sure about its capabilities.

Definitely love to hear more about what you do

Hey @noahlovell , not sure who owns it but https://www.wixprothemes.com/ does a bang up job with this concept. I would be interested in looking at some of your themes and potentially buying a few.

The one thing that I think is important is being able to remove Velo code to themes as needed for buyers.

Good luck!

Hey! Thanks for that link, I’ll take a look and try and figure out how they do it.

Currently not quiet in the position to sell any themes, thinking about 2-3 months time, but when I do, I’ll send you a message.

I don’t tend to use Velo as I don’t know how to code, nor have I got a developer I can rely on, so I think I’ll be alright there. :facepunch:
