I’m currently using Spaces by Wix to deliver paid, subscription-based educational video content, and I wanted to share some challenges I’m facing with video playback to see if others are experiencing the same issues.
While Spaces works very well for community features such as group chats, image sharing, and blog content, the video experience has several limitations that make it difficult to use for learning-focused or membership-based services:
- The playback bar does not allow instant seeking to a specific timestamp
- Videos cannot be searched within the video library
- There is no option to save or bookmark favorite videos
- Playback progress is not saved when leaving the screen (videos restart from the beginning)
- There is no viewing history for watched videos
For educational content, these features are essential. Members often want to rewatch specific sections, resume videos where they left off, or manage a growing library of content efficiently. At the moment, these limitations create friction for both creators and subscribers, especially when compared to platforms like YouTube or Vimeo where these functions are standard.
I’ve already submitted this feedback as a feature request through Wix support, but I wanted to raise it here as well to see:
- If others are facing similar challenges
- How you’re currently handling video delivery inside Spaces
- Whether there are any workarounds you’ve found
I believe improving video playback functionality would significantly increase the value of Spaces by Wix for creators offering paid programs, courses, and subscription-based communities.
