Video Quality drop in Wix Studio Media

How can we avoid auto compression of a video in Wix Media uploading process?

I’m trying to use a video in my homepage hero section as a background. My video’s original resolution is 1920x1080 px. While uploading the video in Wix Media, the quality of the video drops obviously.

Is there any idea how to avoid this reduction and keep the quality of the video same as the source?

Feels like it can’t be avoided. Wix says the videos are “encoded” for optimization. Som the loss is inevitable. Background videos are usually optimized more aggressively because they need to load fast.

Alternatively, yyou may need to host it externally, for example Vimeo, Wistia, Cloudinary, or your own CDN, then embed it instead of using Wix Media directly. Probably with an app…

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your comment.

I moved from Base44 to Wix to avoid using external storage; however, I’ve been trapped again.

In terms of hosting the video externally, how can I calculate the required bandwidth I need? Previously, I used Cloudinary, but unfortunately, I reached the limit so soon.

Ah I see, the limits…A hero background video usually starts loading automatically, even if the visitor does not watch it, and this devours them, unfortunuately.

Best I could find on the limits is a ~formula: video file size × number of page loads = bandwidth needed, like if your hero video is 10 MB and the homepage gets 5,000 visits/month, that is around: 10 MB × 5,000 = 50,000 MB = about 50 GB/month

To reduce bandwidth, I’d try making a separate optimized hero version instead of using the original video - at least, it woud be optimization you control yourself. + you can use a poster image on mobile and only show the video on desktop to save some limits.

So, if you can evaluate your monthly homepage visits and multiply by the final compressed video size (which you can influence to an extent), you could pick a hosting option enough bandwidth
