Transitioning existing Editor X site to Studio using a Studio Template

Question:

Hey Y’all,

Thanks in advance for addressing this noob question!

Looking at making the leap to Studio but want to make sure I’m doing things in the correct order, before I commit the time and energy to the transition.

I currently have a site that I build a while back using Editor X. It needs a major overhaul and thought I would use this opportunity to transition to Studio. However, since I’m totally new to the Studio inerface and all of it’s functionality, I would like to use one of the premade templates and go from there. I’m hoping to do the redesign over a month or so in the background and once it’s all set up, I’d like to transfer the existing domain to the new and improved Studio-made site.

To be clear, the existing Editor X site would remain live, while I built a totally new Studio site in parallel to the existing site. Then transition over once the Studio site is up ready to launch.

This should be relatively easy right? Are there any things I need to watch out for during the Studio site build?

Hey @Thomas_Saunders!

You might find that the Editor X site has already been updated to the Studio Editor - that being said, you can defo do a revamp to get the hang of Studio in a new editor.

Some things to be mindful of:

  • Some data can’t be transfered between sites - like sales data and analytics
  • From an SEO perspective, keeping site structures/meta descriptions etc are beneficial (if you have good SEO), and if you’re changing URL’s setting up redirects etc.

We also have various Crash Course cohorts to help with getting to grips with Studio that might be of interest - https://www.wix.com/studio/academy/wix-studio-crash-course
