Question:
How Do I Convert My Website From The Old Wix Editor to Wix Studio
I spent so much time working on a website, only to find out that Wix had transferred my site, when I created it, to Wix Editor instead of Wix Studio. Now I need to switch my site to Wix Studio. I know straightforward it isn’t possible. Does anyone have any work arounds? Please help.
I’ve already tried copy pasting, and unfortunately, it doesn’t let me copy or paste pages, strips, sections, etc. I also tried saving sections, they aren’t cross-platform, and didn’t even save. SOS.
Regarding this issue, the current official announcement from Wix seems to be that the only solution is to rebuild everything manually from scratch. However, I think I’ve come across a post mentioning an unofficial tool that can transfer designs, but it’s likely not an official solution. At this point, it’s important to understand that the Wix Editor and Wix Studio Editor are entirely different platforms.
I’m currently in the process of migrating a site I’ve worked on for years over to Wix Studio, and it’s a challenging task. That said, during the process of rebuilding, I’ve discovered many new features and opportunities to refine the design, so it doesn’t feel like a 100% waste of time. The real issue, I think, is figuring out how to handle legacy data created in Wix Apps on the old site.
P.S.
I found the post I had seen before. Loeiks shared a method using Figma. He’s a highly trustworthy community member, but to be honest, I feel that even with this method, it might be difficult to fully leverage Wix Studio’s responsive capabilities when copying a design. If that’s the case, it might defeat the purpose of rebuilding the site in Wix Studio in the first place.
That said, it’s worth trying at least once. If it works well, that would be amazing. Please let me know how it goes if you decide to try it!
There is no such thing as “Wix transferred my site to Wix Editor instead of Wix Studio”.
When you create a brand new site you have to select Editor or Studio.
You will have to rebuild it. Some Editor elements and Editor app do not exist on Wix Studio because they are not compatible yet. The Classic Editor is a completely different platform so nothing can be copied and pasted to Studio.
Studio is complex and more advanced than the Classic Editor. For someone with Studio training and experience, it can take 3 times longer to build something on Studio. For someone barely learning Studio, it take 10 times longer.
I recommend starting with a template and watching as many Studio tutorials as possible because it is nothing like the Classic Editor at all.
What had happened was I created a site on Wix Studio but it for some reason brought me to Wix Editor and when I was finished with my site, I hadn’t realized that it was Wix Editor. I know how to use both.
I’m sorry, but someone that knows what the Studio editor looks like will not build an entire site and then find out they actually built it on the classic Editor.
The editors are absolutely nothing alike.
But as you say you have experience in both then you should not have too much trouble rebuilding the site with responsive elements.
I see , personally, I think the confusion might stem from the name “Wix STUDIO.” Even when creating a site in the regular Wix Editor, the top left of the dashboard still displays “Wix STUDIO.” In other words, it feels like “Wix STUDIO” is a larger framework that contains two editors: the regular Wix Editor and the Wix Studio Editor.
So, perhaps you were editing in the Wix Editor from the beginning, and then at some point thought, “Wait… this isn’t the Wix Studio Editor!” and realized it halfway through.
But since you can distinguish between the editing screens of both editors, hmm… the mystery deepens.
Guys, I have a related question here. I’m rebuilding a website for my client that was initially build using Wix Editor into Wix Studio. I did it as a complete new site now and I would want to move the existing members from the initial site from Wix Editor to the new one built in Wix Studio. Can I achieve this? I saw there are some options to import data like products and blog posts but haven’t seen this for members (site visitors who created an account on my client’s site). Please someone let me know this is possible and how to do it as there are a lot of members registered that we don’t want to lose Thank you in advance
