VideoBox vs. Video Player, when to use each component

Video Player

  • Video player is most suitable to present a movie with a linear story such as tutorials, recipes, etc.

  • The video player can play uploaded videos but also external links like YT, FB or Vimeo

  • The video is ‘scale to fit’ in the bounding box, i.e. the video keeps its height and width ratio.

  • The Video player has video controls such as video scrubber, full screen mode and volume.

VideoBox

  • VideoBox is best used as a design element - as a fully stretched video on a container or a section, or as a decorative motion element

  • Best practice instead of using gifs is to use VideoBox with a video set to ‘loop’. This way the quality and the performance are much better

  • VideoBox has big range of design controls:

  • Pattern overlays

  • Full control over the size, position and color of the play button

  • Focal point (as it can be resized not proportionally and scaled to fill)

  • Flip & rotate function

  • Masks
