What has happened with Content Manager Import Speed?

I have been using CSV file import for about 3 years now and it has always been pretty fast.
I have 20 different databases some of which have more than a few thousand entries. I recently tried to import a 3.62KB csv file into one of my databases that contains 821 items. The database has 4 fields, all textual. When the import seemed to HANG at “0 Records Successfully Imported” I waited a full 15 minutes after which I aborted the upload by closing the browser tab session. I then cleared cache and cookies, shutdown browser (Chrome) and open new browser and a tab session to my sites. Retried the upload and again it sat there spinning with same status message.
After 1 1/2 to 2 minutes it finally finished.

I called into Wix support and was transferred to a “specialist” who had me run speedtest.net. I am located in Florida where weather is currently in the mid 70s. My download speed was just over 200MB and my Upload speed was 11.7MB/sec. I was then told that the reason my import was slow was due to the number of databases and size of content I have.

As a followup, I looked at size of file. It is 3.62KB. By my calculations, that is 28.96 kilobits. Even at 11MegaBits/sec upload, this should not take more than a few seconds. I then uploaded the same file to Google Drive, it took 3 seconds or less. I then opened a new session to the Wix Editor for my site and clicked on Media. I uploaded the same text file in 4 seconds. I simply cannot accept the answer provided by Wix Support.

Anyone have any ideas on the REAL cause of this?

Thanks
JD

Do you have another file that you can try? It almost sounds as if there is an issue with the contents of the file that is “confusing” the import (corrupted file, invalid file format, etc). If you still have any of your old files that previously imported ok, give them a try again and see how they work.

If they work OK, then we’ve got to figure out what the issue is with this new file that’s causing the import to crap out. Let me know what happens and I can get QA involved to help us evaluate.

Thanks Yisrael, It is not the file. I loaded maybe a dozen different files yesterday and all them took an enormous amount of time…i.e… minutes instead of seconds.

I’m going to send this to QA for evaluation.

It might also be worth opening a ticket with Wix Customer Care since we might need a sample file to check and I believe you can send one to support.

@yisrael-wix Yes, I already opened a ticket, they told me it was due to my upload speed and number of databases I have. Since I strongly disagree with that assessment I posted here.

Thanks,
JD

@cwvega76 no problem

If we need the ticket number we can ask for it later. Meanwhile, I passed it on for evaluation.

Is there any problem posting a sample file here for me to play with?

It seems this file uploader does not support .csv extension. I have renamed it sample.txt. This is the last one I loaded yesterday that to a couple minutes or more.

Perfect - downloaded it so you can delete the comment if you want.

Yisrael,
It just ocurred to me that ticket 821908836 regarding conflicting field types may have something to do with this…

Well, I’ll tell ya’… it took about 5 seconds to import. Very fast. I imported the file to an empty, un-configured collection.

You really just might have an issue on your end. Or if you defined fields in the collection first, the fields in the file might not be compatible with the fields that you have defined in the collection.

Not sure what’s going on, but I don’t see anything. Works great.

The database this file was imported into was CVOA-Roundup-Photos

I’m going to clone your site and it try it on the clone. This way I know that what I do will be same as what you are doing.

I gotta admit - I always love browsing through your site. I’m more a Ford guy ('57 Fairlane or '55 T-Bird), but your site’s really got some cool stuff on it.

Again, on the clone - 5 seconds. On my end it runs like a souped up Vega.

I tried import on both sandbox and Live (I published for testing, I’ll unpublish when we’re done with this).

Sorry, it just seems like it might be an issue on your end. Perhaps firewall, Internet filter, or some other thing.

@yisrael-wix I just imported into Sandbox (since I didn’t want dups in database. When right in!

So, went into Content Manager and with Filter, deleted the records matching this file. Tried the import… doing same thing it did yesterday. Spinning…

Just NOW finished the import… about 4 minutes…

@cwvega76 very strange

Maybe try over a different Internet connection. Maybe tether your phone. Whatever, try to find another connection.

Anti-virus? Anti-malware? Firewall on your computer? Maybe try WD-40.

I really don’t know what could be wrong. It almost sounds as if there is “something in the way” that’s slowing it up. I don’t even think it took 5 seconds for me. I tried sandbox, Live, imported multiple times, and so on. It just works great. I have no idea what to tell the support guys.

@yisrael-wix BUT, Sandbox worked for me in less than 3 seconds.
