What is the difference between Wix Groups and Wix Forum?

I have a client that wants to let his members have a group discussion around a few topics. Thanks in advance.

That’s a good question; I think I answered it somewhere, but in a nutshell a forum is a high level discussion. Example: Biking. Topics may include different types of bikes, like recumbent, etc. Community members might make groups based on their location. Groups are community-created spaces inside a topical community. Short version: Groups are a way for the site members (community members) to make their own space. Does that make sense?

Yes. Thanks. Forums are basically set by admin… admin related discussions. Groups are for you members to start their own groups and participate that way… is that what I’m gathering? I suppose they could both do the same thing that I’d need it to do…?

Yeah, there are a lot of ways to architect it. For sure.

@rddesignsllc I want to elaborate a bit more to the great stuff mentioned here:
Groups are more about the members and facilitating their communication, usually media based communication. While forum is more about the content - more structured content, curated and formal.
Groups are for members that has a lot in common (interests, hobby, etc) and very much suitable for groups that actually meet in real life.

@rddesignsllc which kind of discussion your clients wants in his site? Or which business he has? It will help me lead you to the the right direction.

Wants discussions around travel vouchers…

That’s sounds like a forum case to me - cuz he wants the content to be easily find there right?

What’s his site about?

That’d make sense. His site is very a specific group of people. People pay to be a part of it. Sounds like he just wants to run some discussions.

If it’s discussion between members it’s a forum, for sure. Not sure if he needs groups at this point.

Copy. Thanks everyone!
