Thank you for your time and interest. Basically, I’m trying to add “share” buttons for factbook, pinterest, instagram, email and sms. (Not like or social buttons/bar.) I was trying to use the external API JS from ShareThis. (How to Install ShareThis' Tools on Wix - ShareThis) But could not get it to work. I know the property code is in the right place as I can verify it with Sharethis.
I’ve tried putting the JS snippet in Wix “head” and “body” and even in the iframe with the sharethis div. In no case can I get the share buttons to appear.
I am now also playing with the Wix provided buttons but Wix only seems to have a facebook share button. Not any of the others.
Any insights or help would be greatly appreciated!
@randomexpert look for the social tab of the + button on wix outside of developer mode. They have like and follow buttons for all the social media. I believe this is unrelated to the thread above and you really should not do that on these forums, but I hope my comment helps.
Thank you Elizabeth and Mike for your time and efforts. I appreciate it
I’m trying to add “share” buttons. Not “connect” buttons. I want people to share my site on THEIR social media. Not join my social media. The Wix social bar is fine if I want people to join my social accounts. But does nothing to get me on their social accounts.
So, I am trying to add share buttons from ShareThis which using a javascript snippet in the head code and html code for inline buttons.
Wix does not have share buttons for email or instagram or sms. They have them for facebook, twitter and pinterest.
Yes, just go on a random website and click on their share buttons, then copy the web address from the browser window that opens. Then modify to suit your web address and paste into the Wix social bar. The only one i haven’t seen a share address for is Instagram.
@elizabethjhay It doesn’t have to be a social bar, all we are doing is creating website links. We are just using the social bar as it has convenient pictures. If one wanted they could place an image or some text on screen and link them to the above web addresses i have provided. Pretty standard stuff…
@mikemoynihan99 Wow! Standard for you…Genius for us Thank you again Mike. I will try this out later today. I wonder if the same trick works for sending an email or an sms share?
@mikemoynihan99 Totally agree. Standard, but great solution. It just seemed like he didn’t know where to find the icons. You explained the linking process perfectly. I’ve made custom ones before out of custom images, but the social bar helps in simplifying what was being attempted. Good that @randomexpert thought it was genius. Wix code is here to make things less complicated.
@randomexpert I’m not sure if you are planning on writing articles or content that you want people to share, like videos or pictures, but wix offers blogging capabilities to turn your site into this type of site. https://www.wix.com/app-market/wix-blog-1/overview
This format is good for all sorts of stuff. It might not be what you want, but every post is sharable.
A lot of the apps that wix has have social sharing capabilities. It is best if you contact wix via phone if the linking that Mike suggested is not what you were looking for. I don’t have a lot of context as to what you are trying to achieve with the sharing buttons, but if you are planning on creating shareable content look at the blog, video, images, and events app to turn on share and like buttons.
