Wix Payment Processing Fee & Invoicing

Question:
Hello! Curious what others are doing when it comes to online payments and offsetting the Wix payment processing fee? I understand in the US Wix collects a fee of 2.9% + 0.30, so would I just add a “tax” for essentially the same amount?

Product:
Wix CMS - Payments

Additional information:
I’m in California if that makes any difference.

I have the same question about this as well. Additionally, I would like to inquire: Is the processing fee applied after the subtotal amount, or does it contribute to the calculation of tips and a service fee that I have set up? For example, if a customer purchases something for a total of $3.49, plus tax, making the subtotal $3.79, and there is a service fee of $1 to bring the total to $4.79, is that 2.9% based on the $3.79 or the $4.79?

All payment processors collect basically the same exact fee amount.

Wix Payments
Square
Stripe
PayPal
etc etc etc

Even the banks do it.

It is the only money they make to process a physical payment for you. That is how they stay in business.

It is a business expense to you.

They charge a fee on the total amount being processed. You can’t charge a fake “tax” to recover a business expense. That is illegal. Speak to a local accountant about business expenses and your “tax” questions.

Some payment processors give you lower fees based on how much volume you produce over time. Other companies don’t take any fee at all, like Venmo or Zelle because they make their money somewhere else to stay in business.
