Hi! I am helping a client do a redesign on some of their Pages. I am working in their Wix account and duplicated the site so I can work on the duplicate site to try out some ideas without affecting their live site.
When I redesign, say the home page, would I have to go onto their live site and recreate it there or is there a way to copy the new home page from the test site and add it to the live site to replace the original home page? Will this affect SEO?
Or is there a better way to do this? I have not done a redesign so I am just wondering the most efficient way to do it without affecting SEO.
Thank you for such a quick reply! Are there any implications that I should be aware of other than the duplicate site would not have previous store orders, contacts or invoices as well as some 3rd party apps not duplicating properly?
The URLs remain the same on the duplicate site as the original site? So doing this would not affect the SEO?
contacts and invoices wont export but everything else will… I’ve done this to my wix site before so it should be fine it just means that all users will have to resignup and you should be fine asking them to re signup for the website… not the best solution but it should work ok
Ah! That seems like it would work for me as it is just a couple pages I am updating. Do you happen to know how the URLs would work for that? If I copy and paste the new home page to the original site to replace the old home page BUT I want to have the old home page URL switched to the new home page so I don’t lose the SEO of the page, can that be done? How do I do that?
It appears that the duplicate home page has the same URL as the original one…when I copy and paste the new home page to the original site, there would be 2 pages with the same URL (the old home page and the new one I add) - does this result in an error message? Does it automatically rename the new page I add that has the duplicate URL? Will both pages have the same URL and I can just set the new home page as the “Home Page” and delete the old one? How does that all work?
Sorry, may be a simple process but I have never had to do this before and I don’t want to mess up their SEO ranking of their home page. I want to make sure the I am not missing any steps. Thanks
man thanks… didn’t know that was possible and that might be something that i try one day. i have lots of pages on all the websites i created for myself so that wouldn’t have worked in my case anyway.
@sewellstephens104 it’s a really cool and useful feature that you may use someday! You can also copy components as well, or entire pages as I mentioned. Thanks for coming to the rescue!
