I have changed my primary domain. Both OLDSITE (www.french-marketing.com) and NEWSITE (www.french-interpreter.com) were already set up in Wix, so all I had to do was click on “set to primary”. The pages are all the same as before, and they are automatically redirected (I can’t quite decide if Wix has set up a 301 redirect, but I assume Google doesn’t care so long as there’s no “Can’t find this page” error).
A few days on, Google doesn’t want to index the new page because of the duplicate on OLDSITE. (“Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user” error). I read that I need to request a “change of address” in GSC, but when I try I get several errors all seemingly relating to the re-direct. (See screenshot).
I can’t find a way to manually add a 301 redirect between domains rather url/pages in the url manager from secondary to primary domain in Wix, supposedly either because it does it automatically or because it doesn’t need on. My long term plan is to not longer use OLDSITE though, so I want Google to start switching the canonical urls… Any thoughts ?
I have already tried deleting the Google Analytics tag and replacing it with a new one, as suggested in some forums, it didn’t make any difference.
Thank you everybody!
