Hi everyone. Have had a WIX website for a number of years but it suffers from a vague domain name. I have now purchased a more specific domain name. Can I use the new domain with my old site and not lose all the SEO work I've done? Thanks!

Yes, it is possible to use the new domain with your existing Wix website without losing SEO, as long as the migration is done correctly.

Wix allows you to connect a new domain to your existing site and redirect the old domain to the new one using 301 redirects. These redirects tell Google that the site has permanently moved and that the SEO authority from the old domain should be transferred to the new one.

Key points to keep in mind:

  • Do not create a new website; keep using the same Wix site.

  • Set the new domain as the primary domain.

  • Enable 301 redirects from the old domain to the new one.

  • Keep the same content, URLs, and site structure.

  • Update Google Search Console with the new domain.

If you do this correctly, you will not lose your accumulated SEO. A small temporary fluctuation in rankings is normal and usually recovers.

Note: Wix automatically handles the 301 redirects for you, so you don’t need to manually configure them.

All the Best!
