Clarifying Costs for Connecting a Custom Domain on Wix

Hello everybody,
I am looking to publish my website built on Wix Studio with a custom domain. From the information I’ve gathered, it seems I need to upgrade to a premium plan to connect a custom domain. However, I’m a bit confused about the payment structure and associated costs.

  1. If I upgrade to a premium annual plan, do I pay the full annual cost upfront to connect my domain? Or is there a separate one-time fee just for connecting the domain initially?

  2. Do I need to continue paying the premium plan subscription fee every month to keep my custom domain connected? Or is it a one-time payment for the domain connection?

  3. If I decide to cancel my premium plan subscription after connecting my domain, what happens to the domain? Will it remain connected to my Wix site, or will I lose the custom domain entirely?

  4. Are there any other hidden costs or fees I should be aware of when connecting a custom domain and maintaining it long-term on a Wix site?

I want to make sure I fully understand the financial commitment involved in using a custom domain with my Wix website before making the decision to upgrade. Any clarification on the payment structure and recurring costs would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Yes. you pay upfront for your premium hosting plan. No one time fee for custom domain. You need to pay for domain as a seperate cost to the hosting of the website.

  2. Yes, to keep your domain connected to the site it must have a premium plan. I suggest yearly as it is cheaper.

  3. I am assuming you have a custom domain already purchased for another domain host. If you cancel your Wix plan the website will no longer be connected to your domain. If you paid for the domain through Wix, you still own that domain for as long as you pay for it.

  4. no hidden fees.(except if website plan and domain costs go up) Pay yearly for Wix plan and yearly for domain for long term.

Just to be sure: if I haven’t bought any domain yet, when I purchase a domain directly from Wix I would need to pay for the domain (except the first year) AND for the premium plan. And as long as I have the premium subscription, the domain will be active and connected to my website, but if I cancel my subscription, the website won’t be connected anymore to my domain but I will still own it. Right?
