Dev Mode Interface does not match tutorials

Hello, I have been trying to add a Global CSS file to this new site, and it’s the first time I activated the Dev Mode on Wix, and the interface does not match any tutorial currently available on the part where there should be the “Global” or “CSS” section under the “Page Code” tab. There is neither the link to Wix IDE above the code editor. So far I haven’t been able to create a global.css file that correctly affects the site.

I would like to be able to either alter the Wix interface to the right mode, access/create the CSS file or section, or at least access the IDE. None of those have been acessible to me so far.

Some of the tutorials I have tried to use:

Thanks in advance!

Hi, @Rodrigo_Rodrigues !!

I believe the editor you are currently using is the standard Wix Editor. Unless the specifications have changed, global.css can only be used in the Wix Studio Editor, which is a separate editor designed for agencies and professional site creators, rather than the standard Wix Editor.

Thanks for the reply! @onemoretime
Could you explain me the path or a tutorial that shows how to activate the editor you mention? I have clicked on the “Edit site” button from the “Sites” tab to get where I was in the previous image.

From here, where do I click or which setting do I alter?

I regret to inform you of some unfortunate news regarding this matter. This question has been asked repeatedly on this forum, but as of now, it is generally understood that a site created with the standard Wix Editor cannot be migrated to the Wix Studio Editor. In other words, there is no option to simply switch the editor you use to open the site. If you want to build a site using the Wix Studio Editor, you will need to recreate it from scratch in Wix Studio. :smiling_face_with_tear:

It’s important to recognize that Wix Studio is not an upgraded version of the standard Wix Editor—they are fundamentally separate platforms. I’m sorry if this is disappointing. While it may become possible in the future, it’s likely that Wix is avoiding this due to the high risk of technical issues during the migration process. Of course, this is just my personal opinion. :innocent:

Thanks again @onemoretime
Then last question, using my current version of the editor, if I create a css file in Public (as shown in the image below) it should affect the whole site, correct? Or is it not possible at all?

Considering that global.css was introduced as a distinctive feature of Wix Studio, I think it would be quite difficult to use it outside of that environment—probably. While there are ways to forcibly modify the styles of Wix elements even in the standard Wix Editor, simply writing styles in a custom CSS file likely won’t have any effect.

If there is a way to override styles, it would probably require writing them inside custom code (though I haven’t tested this myself) or adding CSS within a custom element—this is something I have successfully done before. However, I wouldn’t recommend it, as it could introduce unexpected issues. Even if the styles do apply, they might unintentionally affect other elements.

If you want full control over your site’s styles, your best options are either creating your own elements using custom elements or using global.css within Wix Studio. While the learning curve is a bit steep, mastering custom elements will allow you to achieve a wide range of designs, making it a valuable skill in the long run. Custom elements are available in the standard Wix Editor as well, but a premium plan is required. :innocent:
