I’d like to see more options, and maybe a different selector for displaying user input - specfiically I’d like to be able to connect the Blog Format and the Wix Forum format to a custom database.
The user input editor interface is a bit confusing I find. I like how you can connect tables to user input via the database, but I’m confused by the other options being here ( like buttons and boxes for text input) when you want to display user input as opposed to capture it.
So I’d propose a different selector for capture user input and display user input
Could you please elaborate more on “be able to connect the Blog Format and the Wix Forum format to a custom database.”
What do you mean by “a different selector for capture user input and display user input.”? In the Wix Code solution, we let the user connect many elements to the database. In the case of user input elements, they can be used, with a button to create a form.
re: “a different selector for capture user input and display user input.” , I was looking for the option to display user input and it presents me with options to capture user input e.g. a button
Another way of asking the same question… how many ways of displaying user input are there? Currently , it’s just the table style elements at the bottom of the “user input” selector I pasted above isn’t it?
(aside from Dynamic pages)
Now I got you
You can connect regular elements of the editor to the dataset and database. Start by adding a text element or an image and click the connect icon.
For more information check Working with the Connect Text Panel | Help Center | Wix.com
I understand you can connect regular elements to the datasheet too, I guess I regard that as part of Dynamic pages. What I’m finding confusing is one of the ways you can display the dataset - a table - is actually listed on the user input tab. Unless I’m mistaken , it’s a output not an input? Or can you also input via a table?
You are right. The table is a new element and we decided to place it with other new elements although it is not an input one.
As a temporary measure thats fine, but long term I think that’s going to cause confusion.

I’m trying to get the user submitted content in either a blog grid and/or a forum format.
The content would repeat.
Each post would have at grid/list level:
- Title (user submitted(
- Picture (user submitted)
- User ID
- URL (user submitted)
- Like (Heart) button / number of likes
Also, at post level:
- Description (user submitted)
- Commenting from other users.
You appear to be working on something close to this going off one of your other posts with this picture:
,
Will any of these repeating elements allow you to add Wix commenting functionality?
@Uval on last comment , when will this be available , my site pretty much revolves around this function. XD
Ah… Apparently what I want to make hasn’t been made yet.
Keep up guys!
i got my site to work as i intended finally , is www.wittysprout.com
