I’m having trouble with
Hi! I am creating dynamic pages and am very confused about something:
I want to create a dynamic page collection with the following structure:
mysite.com/continent/country/state/city
Let’s take http://mysite.com/americas/usa/california/los-angeles as an example. I can create this page, where Los Angeles is featured. However, how can I create the pages which are higher up in the structure? For example, I want to have http://mysite.com/americas, and http://mysite.com/usa, and http://mysite.com/usa/california also. Currently, however, it will only allow me to create a dynamic page if I fill in all the fields. It would be ridiculous for my Americas page URL to be http://mysite.com/americas/blank/blank/blank instead of just http://mysite.com/americas.
How do I do this? What am I missing?
Thank you!!
Austin
Hi Austin, a dynamic page URL is built from the fields in its pattern, and every field in the pattern has to hold a value, which is why you get the blank segments. Two ways to get clean URLs at every level: 1) One dynamic page per level. Keep a collection for continents, one for countries, one for states and one for cities, link them with reference fields, and give each its own dynamic page with its own pattern, e.g. /{continent}, /{country} and /{state}/{city}. Each level then only needs its own fields. 2) If you want one collection with a single path field (americas, americas/usa, americas/usa/california), use a router page with Velo (wix-router). A router handles a wildcard prefix, so you read the path from the request, look up the matching item and return that page, and the URLs can be any depth. Option 1 is the simpler build and works fine with SEO. Option 2 is better when the depth varies. If this helped, please mark it as Solved.
