Feature Release: Customizing the Member Approval Email

The ability to customize the email sent to approved members is now available, resolving the following feature request .

With this release, you can customize the Site Member Approval email by editing text, adding images or a logo, and choosing the sender email details, and more.

You can also configure your own sender details such as your sender name and reply-to email address.

Important: To use this feature you must have your signup settings to “people I approve.”

How do I access this functionality?

  1. In the dashboard, go to Settings , then scroll down to Notifications you send as displayed in the image below.


  1. Click Preview and Edit next to “When: Site member request is approved”.
  2. Click Edit on the template.
  3. Edit the template to your desired specifications.
  4. Click Continue and Save

I love this step. It was only the other day that I was thinking about some of this functionality.

It’s great to see that we are able to customise the reply to email edit the text and everything else.

This is a great step forward. Now I would love to see a similar sort of functionality for invoices and quotes etc. I’d love to be able to choose the sent from and reply to email address, as at the moment we can’t do that.

Being able to customise everything fully helps partners and the like to appear more professional.

So a new feature was added where you can set contacts as members…but the emails that are sent are not customizable. I tried it with “anybody can join” where I selected a test contact and the email that is sent is vague and the end user would have no idea what it’s about. Then I set the sitting where only “people I approve” can join. Added a test contact to the member area, then it slip into pending approval and approved the test member. The email that is sent is not the same email that’s in “notifications you send” section. It appears there are two different batches of emails that are sent and the ones that you send when you set a contact as a member are not customizable. This new feature of setting contacts as members is useless at this time, as you can not edit the emails that are sent.

@benm could you explain please once again which email is not customisable? When you manually set someone as a member and email is sent? Or you mean when someone joins the site as a member?

site members / more actions / set contacts as members - attached is the email they would receive. Can’t customize it as far as I know from back in September.

Hi @wix-team I am having the same problem that benm is having in this post as when I set a contact to a site member the email that is sent warns folks that it may be spam and has no information about why they are being sent this email. I need to be able to customize the message and the sender so it has context to the new site member that I set. If there is a way please let me know as I will have to figure out an alternate message to warn the contacts that they will be getting this message.
