FIXED. Sharing what I did to resolve the problem. Since there was no immediate response in the Forum.
I went into Site > Site History and chose the version that was best prior to the Footer running amuck. I have no clue why duplicated elements of a Footer would be “invisible” and not shown in the Wix Editor layers panel…
I then Created a New Page. Used data from the actual live website, since I had not published the content from editing yesterday, to make the design go quicker. As a rule, you should backup all your data like text into a spreadsheet in case things like this happen.
I added a new Gallery. Interesting, the options were different today and the images posted so much better - resizing automatically into a grid although they were different sizes. This served the purpose so much better.
As I always say, any difficulties you encounter make you stronger, wiser and can actually improve things. But I would like to understand what caused the footer issue. I am noticing lots of errors in Google Console such as “Forced Reflow” “WDE0026” and more…
I think that the Template Designers need to be required to review their templates each quarter due to code changes and rules, etc. Because the errors cannot ALL be “oh, it’s supposed to be like that”… brushing it off and I would think that 700 error messags + slow our websites down. I am looking at this from a website owner, and website designer perspective - we do not have the code knowledge to correct many of these issues.
I also think that header data should be “built-in” the the WIX module when setting up websites. I do not understand why there isn’t an interface that can be provided directly from WIX Developers to protect WIX website owners from potential hacking from “bad actors”. The more integrations outside of WIX - the more the possibility of HACKS.
I also think that any code related to our websites needs to be clear, imported directly by the theme developer without encryption. Nothing hidden. Edits should be color coded by either WIX default (black); WIX Theme Developer (Blue); WIX App Developer (Green); 3rd Party / Contractor (Red); and Website Owner (Hot Pink)
I spent a couple of days trying to iron this issue out and wound up having to rebuild the page. It seems to me that the problem was not that complicated, but maybe shady??
