How do I create a contact form that allow me to block spams by collecting their IP address?

Hello, I have had a few people sending me death threats and spamming me on my website. I need to find a way to make it stop and I can’t just flag them using my email provider. How do I create a contact form where I can see the IP addresses the people who contact me and flag the ones that harass me (I’m aware IP addresses are not always static and people use VPNs but that’s my only option)?

Wix has zero tolerance for abusive behavior. Not sure what they can do, but I will refer this to the proper authorities within Wix.

One way you could handle this would be to use a dedicated Gmail or Yahoo mail account for all emails coming in from the contact page. That would at least keep the garbage out of your private or company email account.

Thanks! I’ve tried that already (a dedicated gmail email) but it didn’t help

What are you getting the spam from? A contact form?

There really isn’t much we can do, but a few suggestions:

  • You can add a Captcha to avoid bots and high volume spam.

  • You could add some sort of word-based spam filtering using code.

  • Check submitted contact entries with the Akismet anti-spam system.

  • There are also 3rd-party spam-filtering services that allow such services via API.
