I built Search Bar Studio because I kept running into the same problem with Wix search, I wanted something that felt like part of the site, not just a basic search box added on top.
I wanted better control over what gets searched, how results are shown, filtering, mobile behaviour and styling, without having to completely rebuild the experience each time.
I built the app around a custom search bar, a dedicated results experience, filtering and sorting, and a dashboard where the site owner can control the design and behaviour.
The idea was to keep setup simple but still give enough control to make search feel like it belongs to the site

I used the Wix app development framework together with Wix APIs for accessing site content and building the dashboard and site extensions.
The Wix developer documentation around app extensions, dashboard extensions and site APIs was particularly useful while putting everything together.
Search Bar Studio is now live on the Wix App Market.
It supports searching across different types of site content, filtering and sorting results, responsive/mobile layouts, custom styling and a configurable results page.
