Question:
Currently my site allows members to sign up without purchasing a package. I would like to require them to purchase a package in tandem ( or at the same time) to becoming a member of the site.

Any one can sign up on my site and packages are available but not mandatory. I need them to purchase a package at the same time they sign up. Sigup is easy but a package is not mandatory to be a site member
Unfortunately a person must be logged in before they subscribe to a Pricing Plans app subscription.
You want people to register. You want to collect their email address and market to them afterwards. So this works in your favor.
So instead, make your pages Paid Members only via the page settings of each desired page. This way people sign up, navigate to a page, and get prompted to upgrade to a pricing plan if they have not yet purchased one.
