Is it not a violation of GDPR laws that Wix forces all members to be automatically subscribed to the blog?

One of the most important things on the site I’m creating is trust and transparency. We’re very clear that we will never spam our customers or misuse their contact info.

I explicitly promise them that they will not, under any circumstances, be subscribed to our marketing emails or new blog post notifications unless they explicitly and expressly sign up for them. (This is actually just the baseline of what GDPR laws require.)

So why is it that Wix has not only defaulted ALL members to be subscribed to the blog, but there is also NO way to remove the setting?

Confirmed by this Wix article for reference: https://support.wix.com/en/article/request-turning-off-new-blog-post-notifications-for-site-members

The only option is for customers to be opted-in without their consent, and THEN unsubscribe on their own. This is unacceptable for companies that wish to build trust with their customers. Can we get a fix here?

Hi Courtney,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I’ll forward this information to our team.

You have the option to disable who gets notified when you publish a new post. If you go to your Blog Settings in your dashboard, you’ll see the option for blog subscribers and site members.

You can find additional information here .

Have you checked if the toggle is off under “Community Settings”?

If it’s not, this option will automatically add all members to your blog community by default.

You can access these options under the Login Bar settings or Member Signup Form. You can find additional information here .

As I previously mentioned, I’ll be forwarding this to our team, but I encourage to check these settings as well.
