modify [coloumn]

greetings.
i built and filled a database. now i need one more coloum “categories”.
i added the new coloum and sent it live.

but i cannot access it from a dynamic weppage.
so i went back to the database editor and realized i could not edit its properties, nor delete or set the datatype. Also the coloumns name is inside [brackets]
So i created another coloumn using a different name and set the type to “text”.

But after anotehr refresh its the same and the new coloumt also has [brackets]

now i wanted to delete these coloumns but i cannot even delete them.

i am totally stuck - even in the editor i cannot manipulate them at all!

i cannot even delete and rebuilt the database because database deletion is nowhere to find and if i were to create another database it would mean even more chaos since several people have to work with it.
Please help!

Hi there,
i guess my question was too complitated?
I want to know what - technically - is this red marked coloum in brackets? And why it cannot be used neither renamed or deleted? It seems totally useless and confusing atm.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

Not too sure exactly what steps you took, but as I understand it, you added a field to the live database in the content manager. If so, the database schema is not changed which is probably the cause of your problem. New fields should be added to the Sandbox database. When the site is published the schema is then copied to your live database. Read the article About Database Collection Schemas for all the details, and pay special attention to the section Non-Schema Fields .

Good luck,

Yisrael
