What are you trying to achieve:
create and publish a new page

Hi, Robert_Provencher !!

It is likely that the 404 error is occurring because the “page name” is being entered at the end of the URL. Instead, what should be entered at the end of the URL is the “URL slug.” You can check this by going to the “Settings” of each page and navigating to “SEO Basics.” :raised_hands:

Hi Robert,

Congratulations on switching to Wix! I personally hate Wordpress and you’ll find that Wix is just so much easier. Especially if you’re good with code, the possibilities of Wix are almost endless

Back to your problem;

Option 1
Is the page that you’re reloading the same as the page that is generated when you hit Publish?

I might be wrong, but from your video, it seems that you haven’t connected your site to your domain. Your Wix Studio tab is showing ‘My Site 3’ when in reality, it should be showing your website’s name. So you’re only publishing Site 3 while your domain is actually connected to a different site (or not connected at all).

When you hit ‘Publish’, wait for the popup and click on ‘view your site live’ (or something in that sense - I can’t remember the exact text…). If the link still doesn’t bring you to the site you’ve just designed, go to option 2.

Option 2
Alternatively, go to SEO settings for each page and make sure that the URL slug for the page is the same as what you type in the search bar. I’m 99% sure this is the problem!

Let me know if it helped :four_leaf_clover:

Thanks. I tried that (which by all accounts would seem very confusing considering the idea behind creating a page shouldn’t be so complex, and after watching many videos on how to create pages, it’s a simple process…one would think…but you could be right…)…and nothing. See attached print screen of what I did, and published…

Hmm, I see. So the slug is the same as the page name, right? If that’s the case, there shouldn’t be any issues. After watching your video, I tried accessing the following URL, and I was able to reach the password input page for now.

https://www.westmountphotography.com/riseabove

For now, please try clearing your browser’s cache or accessing the page using a different browser.

thanks, the site is connected, has been for a while. Ive made other changes, had others work on and create most of this site. Simply trying to create a new page for some reason is not working…

Did you refresh your browser after publishing ? For the latest website version?

I was able to view the new page created .…

Also, after publishing, you can close your other website tabs and simply click on the little blue hyperlinked text that says “Go to URL”. It will open the new page after publishing. It is located right underneath the URL slug in your screenshot.

This will only ever appear after the page is published.

Hi Robert, I agree with the other answers. I accessed the URL you provided (https://www.westmountphotography.com/riseabove) and is working, but in the video, you’re trying to access “/RiseAbove” with uppercase letters. This causes the search engine to not direct you to the correct page, as URL slugs are case-sensitive.

As shown in SEO basics, the URL slug should be in lowercase to match the correct link. I hope this helps!

is that all it was? duh…who knew… I created the page with both words first letter capitalyzed. hence the confusion, on my part… thanks! Rob

Seems that that wix changes the URL slugs to lowercase automatic, learning that too lol
