How to remove the slug 'websitename' in the website url

I’m preparing to connect my existing domain to Wix Studio and would like to preserve both my website traffic and SEO during the migration.

Currently, the URL for a given page, here the “Equipe” page, is :

https://laurentrcloutier.wixstudio.com/initium/equipe

What concerns me is the “initium” segment in the URL. It’s the name of my website, but it’s also appearing as an extra path in the URL.

My current website uses the following URL structure:

https://initium-org.com/equipe

Ideally, I’d like to keep this exact structure after connecting my domain to avoid having to change URLs and potentially impact SEO.

Once I connect my domain, will the URL automatically become:

https://initium-org.com/equipe

or will it remain:

https://initium-org.com/initium/equipe?

If the “initium” slug remains, is there a way to remove it so that my pages are published directly under the root domain?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, once the custom domain is connected and assigned to the Wix Studio site, the page URL will become:

https://initium-org.com/equipe

The initium section is only part of the temporary free Wix address:

laurentrcloutier.wixstudio.com/initium

It identifies the site within the Wix account and will not be added as a folder beneath the custom domain.

To protect the existing SEO:

Ensure the Wix page’s URL slug is exactly equipe.
Match every existing page URL wherever possible.
Create 301 redirects in Wix’s SEO Dashboard → URL Redirect Manager for any URLs that must change.
Retain the existing page titles, meta descriptions, headings and important content.
After launch, verify the domain in Google Search Console and submit the Wix sitemap.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Dan. The clarification that the temporary Wix Studio path doesn’t become part of the final custom domain URL is especially helpful. The reminder about keeping the same page slug and setting up 301 redirects if anything changes is also a great SEO tip for anyone migrating an existing website.
