Restaurant App alternatives

I have a catering client up and running on the Wix Restaurant App. Some of the functionality works fine, including creating a menu, having delivery locations, and accepting payments.

One big issue we have is that the Restaurant App associates the sales tax percentage with each menu item. However, the state of California dictates that the sales tax rate changes depending on the delivery location.

Where this falls apart is that the restaurant App calculates sales tax BEFORE it knows the delivery address.

As a work around, we have duplicated the menu – one for each delivery location. Then we can set the correct sales tax rate for each menu. It’s a hack, and is error-prone, but it mostly works.

Unfortunately, it is labor intensive to duplicate the menus and then set all the sales tax rates for every item, in every menu. And since the client changes the menu every week, we feel this pain weekly.

I was hoping that the Restaurant App would allow for some programmatic access, like Corvid or Java, so we could automate the process. But as far as I can tell, and recently read on this forum, the Restaurant App is a closed system that was purchased and bolted on to Wix. And the authors have left the company.

I have not been able to get in touch with anyone at Wix actually associated with the Restaurant App. I can’t tell if any new development on the app itself is taking place.

I am wondering if I should abandon the Restaurant App and start over from scratch without it.

When you communicate with the Wix Restaurant team, would you please find out if they have any intention of exposing the Restaurant API so that we can access the Restaurant App programmatically. And if so, what is the target date for this to be released?

This will help in our decision to stay on the Restaurant App or seek out alternatives.

I had my client work through a database and built something similar to this.

I also did a multi stage form that will add the total in the pay API. I would guess you have to set the location tax percentage and multiply it with the total.
The location could be done with a dropdown.

Thanks for posting about utilizing a database for collecting payments. It appears this would allow the control needed to then build a sales tax module that calculates sales tax correctly.

Unfortunately, the Wix team has told me that the Restaurant App does not have access to Corvid. So, in addition to building my own payments module, I would also have to build my own Restaurant application. This defeats much of the value in using Wix for Restaurants.

I basically junked the restaurants app. We went with a combo of database payments/ menu and added Yelp reservations. I understand if this is not something your client can support, but I’m happy to talk anyone through it.

soooooooooooo SO many updates needed in the restaurants app. Schedule a call with me! I have done it all trying to get the ordering system to work for simples needs such as; setting a one off pick up date outside of regular hours. You can set your delivery for multiple days and times, why not pick up? I have an on going list I have been writing with 2 of my clients websites and all of the points that have comes up where the app is so limited.

@email383 I’ve talked directly with the restaurants support team MANY times through a call back. Its a looooooooooong call but I have gotten a couple good agents who really know the app! I dont bother with support tickets, half the time you get a bunch of different agents replying to your ticket and different hours of the day and some of them don’t read your ticket properly. Resulting in some very frustrating emails re explaining yourself and that you already did those steps 3 days ago with an agent on the phone.
