Hai Friends,
I’m currently feeling a bit confused about the differences between Wix, Wix Studio, and Editor X. Can someone please provide some insight and clarify their distinctions for me? Specifically, I would like to understand which platform might be the best fit for my needs when it comes to website creation and design. Any information or personal experiences you can share regarding Wix, Wix Studio, and Editor X would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help!
Hi user 911
Right of the bat I can tell you that Editor X is being phased out. Meaning all Editor X Sites will get transferred to Studio.
The main difference between Wix Studio and the regular Editor ist the effective responsiveness of you Website. In Studio you have more control over Sizing, Spacing, etc. of your Site, but in turn not all the feautures Wix offers, are already available there.
The regular editor is perfect for everyone building a site for the first time, since the learning curve isn’t so steep. Your Website will be a bit more “static” but there’s still the option of creating a mobile version relatively easy. From my experience the regular editor offers the most features.
In general it’s important to say, that you can transfer your regular Editor site fairly easy to Studio, if you wish to to so in the future.
Hope I could give you some clarification
This makes it seem like there is a “transfer site” function to move a Wix Editor site to Wix Studio, this is not the case. You would have to re-make the site on Wix Studio.
The TL;DR on the differences is that Wix Editor is easier for beginners to build and work withm but Wix Studio offers you full responsiveness and more flexibility in implementing your design.
Hello there,
So i want to transfer a wix plan to a wix studio website. My question is: do i have to pay anything else? At this moment i have “Business Unlimited” plan on my wix website.
thank you
As @valentin_wackermedia mentioned, Editor X will soon be transitioning into Wix Studio, allowing you to update Editor X sites to Wix Studio. We’ll have more details available in the coming weeks about this.
Studio is built with agencies and freelancers in mind, allowing them to build sites for clients at scale. It comes with additional features that agencies and freelancers are looking for, such as the Studio Workspace, allowing them to more easily manage multiple sites, along with the Studio editor, with responsiveness out of the box.
It’s worth noting that it’s currently not in the plans for 2024 for the ability to transition Wix sites into Wix Studio as we continue making Wix Studio the ultimate platform for your needs—with the best performance and creation experience possible.
Good luck
Am I correct to assume that websites created in Wix Editor will NOT automatically transition to Wix Studio, and be able to utilize its touted responsiveness? In other words, those sites will have to be re-created in Wix Studio?
Correct - it currently requires rebuilding
Also note that if you have a Wix Editor site that relies on streaming audio or video continuing without interruption when they are in a Global element/area like the header etc.
Then Studio will break this. Wix Editors architecture is single page where the page loads everything and the displays elements dynamicly as needed.
Global elements will continue their current behaviour with no interruption.
Because Studio is multipage, The Global elements are reloaded as new when the whole page changes.
I would love to use Studio which gives me access the css etc. But cannot for this reason.
ChatGPT can explain the differences better than me.
In Wix Editor (SPA), global elements (like a streamed audio player) stay active across “pages” since content is dynamically loaded without full reloads. For example, an audio player in the header can continue playing seamlessly as you navigate between sections, as the page isn’t actually reloading.
In Wix Studio (MPA), each page loads independently. If you have a streamed audio player on one page and navigate to another, the audio stops due to the full-page reload.
Wix Editor (Single-Page Architecture):
- Single-Page Application (SPA): In the Wix Editor, the site is structured as an SPA, which means all content is loaded once initially and then dynamically displayed based on user interaction.
- Smooth Transitions: SPAs are designed for smooth transitions without full-page reloads. Wix Editor is optimized for this, so navigating between pages feels immediate and fluid.
- Limited Customization on Page Structure: SPAs typically offer less flexibility for deeply customized, multi-page flows with separate page loads, as they rely on JavaScript to manage content changes.
- Ideal for Simple Sites: The single-page structure works well for small to medium-sized websites, such as portfolios, landing pages, or blogs, where a quick and seamless browsing experience is beneficial.
Wix Studio (Multi-Page Architecture):
- Multi-Page Application (MPA): Wix Studio follows an MPA model, where each page is loaded independently. This is useful for larger sites with complex structures.
- Enhanced Customization: Each page can be managed as a standalone, giving you more flexibility to build pages that function independently with separate scripts and optimizations.
- Full-Page Reloads: Since each page loads separately, it may have slight loading times when navigating. However, this setup allows for distinct page URLs and specific optimizations for SEO and analytics tracking.
- Better for Large Sites: MPAs suit websites that are content-heavy, such as e-commerce sites, news platforms, or sites with various service pages, where separate page loading is beneficial.
Key Differences:
- Performance: SPAs often offer faster user experience for smaller sites, while MPAs are more scalable for larger sites.
- SEO: MPAs generally have SEO advantages, as each page has its own URL and metadata, making them easier for search engines to crawl.
- Customization & Complexity: Wix Studio’s MPA model allows more customization for each page but requires handling individual page performance.
