Sending from linked email address

From Dashboard/Settings/Inbox/Email , I have an email connected.

“Your Gmail is connected!
Outbound emails will be sent from xxxxx@Gmail.com…”

I can click “Send Test Email”, and that works fine, and the email shows up as ‘From xxx@Gmail.com’

But when I use velo code such as wixUsersBackend.emailUser , the email comes in from ...@pb1.ascendbywix.com?

I see the info here says this will happen… But it also says test emails will be the same way, which they are not. Any way to make all emails come from my linked email, without paying for an inbox on my domain? If not, what exactly is meant by “Outbound emails will be sent by” ?

My understanding at this point is that the connected email can only send a test email, and nothing else.
